Default How true is this?

So I go to a local tuning shop and ask them if they could get me the "special cable" for the E-Manage Blue and they said no, that I'd have to get the kit.

That's not the point of the thread though. I also asked the guy if they would tune the E-Manage Blue and he was like we don't go near those things and starts saying how they are very difficult to tune and the stock ECU tries to over-ride the data and blah blah blah. Also said how quite a few TC's have gone in there with blown motors because of the E-Manage.

Then I asked him about the U-TEC and he's like ya, we just had a 350Z blow on the dyno BECAUSE of the U-TEC...and I'm just like wtf, how is it the U-TEC's fault and not the person tuning it? (I didn't directly say that though)

So main question being, is this bs? I mean, I know that many 350Z guys are running the U-TEC and some with the E-Manage.

Also, I have a TS ECU, so I know that it wouldn't over-ride any tuning done to my ECU.

Is the Blue a real PITA to tune, or should I be alright with a person that actually knows what they are doing?

thanks,
dan

If they are blowing up cars with a UTEC then run away screaming, that being said I stand by my earlier statements to you regarding the eblue.

What shop did you go to?

Hey prjctmax , I heard the same thing about my ultimate from a local tuner here. I just put mine up for sale because I didnt know if the boom slang from 2006 to 2007 changed and they wanted me to send a wire diagram. I come back to it at a later time.

I've heard some decent things about Genesis down in Villa Park. That's not far from you, maybe check them out. I still say ditch the eBlue and step up.

I actually think I called them and I got ***-hole responses or they didn't want to do it, or something along those lines...but I'll try them again.

What exactly is so "bad" about the E-Blue though? I mean, I'm just tuning basic bolt-ons and that's it.

The performance gain from a properly tuned system is worth it's weight. When all is said and done it will make more power, more reliably. eBlue is a glorified SAFC IMO. Get a UTEC and be done with it, not only will you get results now, but when you get headers you can properly tune the beast.

Yeah - I'm UTEC tuned with full boltons. 1000% satisfied. UTEC is worth it's weight in gold...

But there are quite a few 6th genners running the SAFC, so wouldn't the E-Blue still be a step up? I mean, I already have the E-Blue with AutoSport Wiring harness and hacked part of my lower dash to accommodate it when I actually put it in. There is also a boosted 4th gen running an E-Blue, so I could only assume that it would be good for just bolt-ons.

Not really, it's still limited like an SAFC. 4th gens are not anywhere near as complex with engine management, you could probably get away with a basic system without the issues that a new car would have. That being said, a better system will ALWAYS give you better results. Sell the crap and spend a few hundred more, isn't your car worth it?

What exactly does the the U-TEC provide that the E-Blue doesn't?

Just get OSIRIS and be done with it....works with the ECU not against it and its pretty inexpensive

600 including a tune has me sold for bolt-ons

UTEC's are solid for NA and FI tuning - in the right hands. You can set the UTEC up as a standalone or in piggyback mode. As a piggyback it will be subject to the same unpredictability as the eManage. To understand this, realize that the stock ECU contains multiple maps depending on various inputs (a part throttle map and a WOT map for example) and also compensates or "learns" over time based on sensor input. You will generally tune under a certain set of conditions based on one map the stock ECU is running and hope when the ECU switches maps or compensates for changes it will not throw your piggyback tune off too much. But you never know for sure. That is why standalones are much more predictable, especially for higher boost where the margin for error is very small.

hmmmm that makes sense!

I also have a TS ECU and have heard/read that if I do get a piggy-back, then the ECU won't alter the readings.

umm...are you by chance the guy that the motor blew on the dyno with the UTEC?... Your front end looks EXACTLY like the one and only Z in their lot and I just read your sig too.
