Factory ECU tuning
Are there any tactrix cables or software available on the market now for the 350z that helps you reflash the ecu?
I'm lookin at buying an ATI procharger. A friend of mine is a teacher at wyotech and can tune me but needs to know if there is any public software available for it (like the tactrix cable for subaru's and evolutions)
So, without going engine management, is there any type of open ecu tuning available to the public?

Damn so if I want to get tuned I'm either going to have to buy enginemanagement and pay some one to tune it or go get my ecu flashed.
Planned on doing it myself, like I did with my wrx.

Yes there Is.. You can tune the Z with the consult-II from the dealer. Many people dont know this, but that unit does everything from advancing and retarding timing, to adjustig fuel. Also look at AAM's cypher cable!

I have looked into this a bit. The Subarus are tuned using Subaru's SSM protocol so plugging the cable in won't work out of the box. 350Z is a CAN based car so this is a different beast. There is some good news on the horizon. Looks like the new 08 Subys are CAN based as well and the guys at tactrix are working on the CAN support right now. Once they have the major protocol hurdles out of the way, I imagine getting 350Z support will not be as difficult as before. I am REALLY hoping for this. If I can at least get the ROM off the ECU and get the protocol dump back to the developers, I am hoping that I can get some support from them and maybe eventually add support for 350Z. That's the optimist in me. I just can't justify spending $800 on a UTEC knowing that I'll get maybe 25HP out of the whole deal provided I spend another few hundred on exhaust. $1K/25HP ratio is just not good enough for me.

We usually find it is more like $100 per HP on a NA Nissan, regardless of what method you use.

I figured, give or take a few bucks:
1. test pipes - $150
2. spacer - $250
3. used UTEC - $600
That should get you ~25HP provided you can tune it yourself. If you need reassurance of a dyno to sleep at night, add another few hundred bucks. I think after that, it gets VERY expensive. I think the line isn't straight so yeah
