Default Megasquirt?

Does anyone have hands-on experience with a standalone Megasquirt system? Its not going to be used on a Z its for a little project I am working on. Any insight would be appreciated. I have a similar post on the msefi.com forum but I know you guys may be able to deliver.

Are you using the new MS II or the old MS I configuration?

I used it on my old 2001 Neon SOHC 2.0L. My configuration was MS I & EDIS running 4g64 ignitors.

The most helpful thing I found was running a relay board (allowed me to test voltages and ease of wiring). I also ran it off the stock crank signal, but back then I was the only neon beta tester *( I think neon and srt guys are using the system regularly now).

If you're installing a TT on an LT1, you might want to look into Calloway or Lingenfelter. They have experience with with these motors. I have seen many Fieros with this setup and it is NASTY. I would personaly go built NA or Vortech supercharger. Fieros are very light so 400-500 hp would be super fast. Also in 1988 the GT was designed to hold a V8 with the stock transmison, but the Corvette guys at GM put a stop to that. If it's an 87 or earlier you will need a different trany. Good luck with your project.

Oh yeah i forgot to say that this is a project for the Grassroots Motorsports $2008 challenge. Wherein I have a TOTAL budget of 2008 dollars for the whole car. I sourced the LT1 from a Caprice for its iron heads. The turbos are some CHEAPEY Ebay units i got for 250 bucks. Thats for both of them and they were brand new. HEHE. I'll be machining and fabricating everything else. Which is why the megasquirt is going to be used.

I think we have had a resonding yes for the MS-I so that is settled. I weant to the pick and pull and yanked an EDIS8 so timing is settled. Now I just have to see what else the budget will allow me to add. I'll be adding picks in the Other Vehicles section soon. Right now the only thing I've done is sand, and sand, and sand, and then when i was done with that I found out I have more sanding to do LOL. I'm repainting the car if you haven't pieced that together yet.

You wouldn't happen to have any insight as to where they mounted the turbos would you? I have some ideas but if you have experience or pictures that would be awesome. This keeps me up at night.

We have the Getrag 5 speed so we should be good for around 450.

If you're mounting the motor in a transverse setup (sideways) it will be tough since the fire wall is in the way. The TT setup had a longitude mounted motor with a Porshe 944 trany. This will however be out of the bugdet range. My suggestion would be to modify the fire wall or customize the exhaust and mount the turbos where the trunk is. Obviously you will have to cut out the trunk area. This will also give you room for an intercooler if you can find a way to create a scoop to feed the air into the back of the car. It's not going to be easy but it is possible.
