Default haltech platinum question

Hey guys,
I am just wondering about the haltech platinum standalone, i was wondering if it will allow the the DLC to still work like there was a factory ecu was in the car.The reason i am asking is that i live in PA and the emission here test the gas cap and a computer plugs into the DLC and check all the ecu's engine diagnostic tests, now im wondering if this system will allow it to be able to pass emissions via DLC computer test.If any input or experience with this kit please help as i am planning on buying a z within a couple months and i love haltech ( i have an e11v2 in my s13).

It leaves your stock ECU in the car. Its just a very advanced piggy back as far as I understand.

The Haltech is not a piggyback per se, advanced or otherwise. It does not alter signals from the stock ECU - it has full, independent control of fuel and spark, all the time. It does allow the stock ECU to control the drive-by-wire functions (e.g. throttle control) and creature comforts (e.g. AC, cruise, etc). The stock ECU will respond to OBD testing but may report CELs depending on what has changed in the car (for example, the MAF is not needed, and if you remove it, the car will run fine, but throw codes, which will be picked up by an OBD scanner). You can get Osiris from UpRev, who can create a flash to have the stock ECU ignore a set of CELs though. Or you can leave all the emissions-related parts alone (like MAF, catalytic converters, etc) and the stock ECU will be quite happy - and you should pass inspection just fine.

The Halteck is a good unit but is still not a stand alone EMS, wile great for race and heavily modified cars not the best for a emissions compliant daily drivers, I personally would wait a bit longer and see if the Access Port from COBB is going to release (I KNOW ITS SUPPOSED TO RELEASE OVER A YEAR AGO) but those guys are very detailed and these things take time, or if you cant wait Technosquare has a good flash, and is reliable. As a rule of thumb for street cars it’s hard to beat the factory ECU, and its purpus engineered maps, although I am a huge fan of Motec!!

I have to ask...where on earth are you getting your info from?

The Haltech, or any other ecu for that matter, from a UTEC to Marelli, Pectel, Motec, or any other super exotic ecu can easily be run on a daily driven car. The great equalizer is the person punching the keys.

From what info i am getting it seems that this is a full standalone ems that utilizes the factory ecu for drive by wire and what ever else the ecu controls that a normal standalone will not. And part of what i am asking is if when you use the standalone/piggy back (whatever it is) would the car still run the rediness/self diagnostic test possibly passing them and not throwing CEL's.

Hal@IP is hopefully helping resolve my PA emissions concern, But the platinum is a full standalone that is setup in a piggyback style to utilize the factory ecu's functions as in drive by wire, tcs, gauges etc.

What kind of emissions testing do they have in Pennsylvania?

Do you already have a Haltech?

In PA they plug a computer into your DLC port if obdII (basically a big dumb scanner) and it checks to see if any CEL's are on and it checks all the readiness test or the ecu self diagnostic test.and if its pre 1996 in some counties thet use sniffer.

Inspection here in NC is exactly the same. I passed with the Haltech and with test pipes. It is handy to have Cipher clear the CELs just before going in for testing. It is interesting to note that my stock ECU reported "ready" and "clean" even though I had just cleared codes not more than 20 miles prior to arriving for inspection (staying out of boost all the way to the testing station of course).

Good luck!

i will be tuning and toying with mine on tues or weds next week. will try to create a fake signal for the maf back into the stock ecu. also, i have a scanner to see if it doesn't like anything else.
emissions is not a prob for me though, as my car resides just outside of our deq required testing area. coincidence? wink wink, nudge nudge, hahaa

Interesting.

Are you going to actually remove the MAF sensor?

i am kinda under the gun right now, but i'm sure i will do it at some point. more curious to see if the haltech has the capability to do the output signal at this point. only thing you need the maf for is to read intake air temp if you are tuning map. stock motors can still tune maf, but fi, no way.
