Default idling with a haltech

howzit,

I am having an idling issue:

as soon as my car warms up slightly "a trip round the block" it starts knocking and clunking under the plenium when idling....

so whats changed, I got a haltech, great, but got info that it can only control rpm above 1500 or 2000. Spoke to some guys at injected and they said it may be a cam sprocket issue... thing is cam sprokets from nissan cost an absolute fortune...

so started playing around with the issue, when the solinoid is taken out of for the cams, idiling is smooth but i have no cam timing. as soon as its plugged in then rough idiling, rough like breaking the heads rough...

if anyone has had this issue before and changed their cam sprockets to get a solution please let me know. if any suggestions or ideas on how to solve this come through it will be appreciated. please note, other posts regarding idiling have very little info so am keen on providing a solution for all.

P.s. I can't change my idling rpm to above 1000, if I could somehow push thiis up i believe the oil pressure will be better, when looking at the timing chains when this noise occurs it looks like they are fighting one another, if i touch the throttle it goes away, oil pressure increases etc... so if anyone knows how to bump up the idle to 1500 for a quick fix that would be great...

cheers

You don't say what year your car is. Since you don't seem to be able to change the idle, my guess is that you have a revup. You'll need to use something like Uprev's Cipher or get a flash to change the idle speed.

I'd ask the person that initially tuned your Haltech to check the cam timing. If the cam sprockets were actually bad, you'd have more problems than this.

^^^ +1

It'd be bucking all over the place and you'd have a CEL for sure, if it even ran.

Just another point, but if you're thinking it has to do with oil pressure, and that raising the idle to fix it will work.... We can sell you a new motor when yours goes kaboom.

If you have an oil pressure issue patching it with more RPM is just going to make it worse. Replace the oil pump, replace the filter, switch to a better oil like the Torco brand SR-1 if you're NA (SR-5 if you're FI), do something to fix the oiling issue but don't patch that kind of problem.

Nice! Hopefully thats the issue and not oil pressure related. Please note who your tuner is so that everyone knows he's willing to bend over backwards to support his customer.

Ship the car here, we'll complete it and tune it and then ship it back. It may be cheaper and easier to do that. I know Boost Logic does that kind of service often for the same reasons on the Supras.

just a note, try to use for and not 4, that post took me like 15 attempts to understand. was wondering why you had bought 4 pistons, what 4 pistons etc meant and why say 4 of the past 7 months. i get it now, just thought you might wanna look into that for the future. you might wanna look for a new tuner if hes blowing your builds like that

i would be really questionable with the engine builder and tuner. there is some o-rings and seals that need to be installed upon motor assembly, and if they are forgotten, would have the issues with the cam sprockets like you are saying. not an easy fix and the front timing covers need to come off. you can pull the intake cam covers though and check there first though and keep your fingers crossed to find a missing seal there.
