Default Why not more Apexi AFC II installs

Why are there so few Apexi afc's being installed on 350z's?? I would think it would be a great addition for tuning. I think there is only one guy on the board who has installed one.

The reason that people aren't installing them is that you can't get that much power from the Z by just adjusting your A/F. For the cost of the V2 safc + the cost of installing a wide band 02 and dyno tuning it, you can get the Perfect Power SMT6 from me. I think the guy that installed it only got 8hp. We were able to get double that... My $.02

There aren't too many ECM options out there right now that are as versatile as the SAFC-II.......and if you were able to get 16HP from richening A/F mixtures, then the SAFC-II will be capable of that also......it can change the A/F mixtures +/- 50%, for 12 different rpm settings, on two different maps.......it will monitor air flow, rpms, and engine knock, and display these all for the user in several different ways.......you can view it as an x/y graph, a bar graph, an analog-simulated gauge..................the reason not that many people are installing them, is because they were just released in the US.

Can it adjust timing? Becuase I don't think the SMT6 got its gains from A/F ratio, but rather the timing advance.

All the piggy backs coming out for the Z scare me a little because the Z's ECU is treated like a black box. And if the ECU does something unexpected, the piggyback will still apply it's offsets. Potentially you could either lose your gains over time or induce knock.

The graphing and diagnostic features of the SAFC-II interest me though.

No, SAFC-II doesn't do timing......it relies on the stock ECM to do the timing adjustments.

The SMT6 is very interesting......i'll be waiting to see more about this......i'm hoping it can adjust timing, like they say.......however, i wouldn't want to go introducing timing and A/F changes without having a way to monitor what the engine does after that.

I keep trying to install the acrobat reader updates... says they are properly installed.

Then when I try to open the pdfs from the site, I'm still getting the errors.

As posted we got our gains from adjusting A/F ratio and timing. The smt6 does this by monitoring the crank shaft sensor siganal and sending new signals to the ecu. The safc is not capable of this making it very limited. We actually went very conservative and still got those gains. You would be surprised at what we were able to get but we decided to come up with the perfect map which sits evenly between realiablity and drivability. Stay tuned for more updates!
