Default MPS Logger + AEM WB Issue

ok so i installed my AEM WB and my UTEC then i connected both to my laptop with a cheap usb-to- serial cable from a local computer store and everything was working perfectly fine. the next day i plug everything back in and my laptop wouldnt detect my aem connection so played around with the drivers but nothing seemed to work... So i went to radioshack and bought a $37 usb to serial cable and now MPS detects the AEM WB and it shows the AFR on the laptop for a moment and then it just freezes and wont show it anymore. I know its not the cable because i can see my afr when i use the AEM setting on Hyper Terminal and that works perfectly fine. I have tried to fix this for a week now and its really frustrating me. Anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong?

BTW: I'm using Vista and the RadioShack USB-to- Serial Cable

Are you sure MPS is compatible with Vista?

after tryin 3 or 4 serial->usb with the AEM, none of them worked and always froze/blue screen of death. running serial into the computer has been 100% working.

i use the serial cable off the AEM with no convertor and it has worked 100% of the time. I use the usb off the UTEC.

if you dont have a serial connection at all on your computer, cant offer any further advice because none of the usb convertors i tried worked more than 50% of the time.

After two freaking weeks of breaking my head installing/uninstalling every windows/driver possible i decided to go back and check all the wiring and i found my problem... This whole time the problem was a bad ground! At least that gave me some time to re read the utec manual several times and now i think i'm reading to do some tuning
