UTEC or ECU retarding timing
Regardless of tuning in open loop or closed loop, I am having this problem. I will set timing numbers in certain cells, esp. 80% and 90% load, between 6000 and 6500 rpm at 22 btdc. The ECU reads 26 (what it would have chosen), and the modified (what I supposedly chose) reads 18. How is it that I can tell the computer to run 22 and only get 18? The knock count is 00 when this is happening most of the time. It looks like throughout the mid to upper rpm ranges the timing varies a lot from what I told it to use, from .5 up to about 6 degrees. Sometimes it's worse than others. Does the ECU ignore my requests in order to protect the engine? Is this a "feature"?

Post some logs so we can see more of the data. On close loop the ECU has full control so your own timing map will not be used. we need to see what parameters you have. Check your Temp Compensation table to make sure it is not pulling timing when temp changes. Are you running speed density?

I'm running MAF pull down (N/A), not speed density. The temp compensation hasn't been set, so there should be no variance. This first log is from early in the run. The second one is from a litle while later (like a few minutes later). Notice how the timing gets pulled from the first run to the second.

I'm running MAF pull down (N/A), not speed density. The temp compensation hasn't been set, so there should be no variance. This first log is from early in the run. The second one is from a litle while later (like a few minutes later). Notice how the timing gets pulled from the first run to the second
