Default Detuning a VK56

I'm considering detuning my QX.

* Pull a few deg. timing for regular gas like Armada.

* modify the throttle tables so the TB opens slower/later for lead footed drivers (e.g. wifey lol)

* tweak the load table so the shift points come down under low loads.

Anyone done this before? Caveats? Advise?

//Flame suit on..

Only problem I see if its not as responsive or slower by lowering the timing or richening it up and she feels it(which she will). It will cause her to go wot that much more. Hence worse gas mileage and negating the money your trying to save lol.

^^ I know she will notice haha. I'd at least put a stock map on there so she could switch it up if she wanted to. She got 14mpg average on her minivan (18mpg rated) now she's getting 9mpg on the QX lol. I'm def. working with her on driving habit, in the meantime was hoping I could tune around it LMAO.

Shes a woman, her foot is an on/off switch. Its the reason I gave up trying to teach my girl how to drive a stick. She has no foot modulation at all.

Whilst horribly sexist, there is some truth in this

It seems that they're always constantly accelerating (not holding speed) or braking.
There doesn't seem to be any coast time and the lifting on the pedal that's needed to maintain speed once achieved, is too little or too much - which leads to accelerating again

And yes, this is totally worth a DAY-UM!

As for tuning around it...you're better putting a rev limiter in. Based on my previous post, try limiting the speed in each gear.

I had to do her brakes every 10k miles on the last vehicle.

Yeah.... i think we've probably hit the nail on the head then, i'm guessing she likes a little speed

Rev limiting in gears sounds like a good start, at least, sekrat logging of speed for her day :P

I think in some states that makes domestic violence legal. Check your local laws.

LOL u guys are brutal. After I gave her some advise and she actually followed it she's now up to 12mpg. I think 13mpg once... but I think I can still tune a few mpg's into this by slowing the throttle response and load tables so it upshifts and locks up sooner. Right now the throttle is very sensitive and it downshifts very easily..
