Exclamation Do i NEED a uprev tune..."lean" AF ration?

So i hear all around about how upgrading your intake (5/16 spacer mrev2 pop charger) leans out your cars AF ratio...

This worries me although my buddy has been running the same set up for a while and nothing serious or minor, wait nothing at all has been an 'issue'.

How many of you are running upgraded intake mods with no uprev tune?

How exactly 'safe' is driving with a lean set up?

Opinions and facts wanted thanks...
(Also how much did you pay for a uprev tune + dyno im assuming, of yea and before you say i already DID research this and didnt find anything...)

I drove mine untuned for 80k miles, had a tune for 30k now, still running strong. OBD2 does wonders and will do plenty to keep you from causing harm.

Yes its safe to run an aftermarket intake. Uprev dynotune is worth the money and allows the mods to actually improve performance. About $550 for a tune.

Driving with an intake is fine, but once you start adding more to your car (exhaust, hfc's/tps, headers, etc.) you'll want to pay for a tune, not only to smooth out your AF ratio, but to truly get your gains out of your mods + you'll know where you're at in terms of whp if you're interested.

That being said, tunes usually run around $500-$600, with re-tunes being around $175-$200 an hour. I would suggest getting most of your mods installed before getting a tune, otherwise you'll constantly pay for retunes (like I did <_<). Best to contact whomever you might choose to go with should you get an UpRev tune for an accurate price, here's a list/map of dealers:

Just the tune should net you somewhere around 20hp...She'll pull a lot stronger and longer in 3-4-5th gear, just what I'm currently experiencing anyway.. just feels a lot more dialed in.... Pricey, but worth the coin.. The extra maps are nice as well... Would recommend HFC's though!!!! Some Berks in the marketplace..

I don't think you actually "NEED" the tune unless you get headers as well but I could be wrong. With the revup, I started seeing AFRs in the 15s with IHE, HFCs, and a 5/16 spacer. A tune will work wonders for your setup but sometimes it's best to budget it in after you are at a comfortable stopping place. If you get it tuned, then get headers, you are going to need a new tune for optimal performance.

With only intake mods, I wouldn't worry so much about the AFRs. If you have a good mix of bolt-ons, I'd consider it to be safe.

What are your current mods and/or mods that might be done within the next few months?
