Post 2004 ECU updates..

Some info from TechnoSquare...

Tadashi has successfully "cracked into" the 2004 ecu program code. He is now attempting to get backward compatability with existing hardware to work with the new format, that Nissan has given to the 2k4 ecus... it seems like that the 04 ECUs are specifically made for the USA and is "one of a kind." No one else in the world runs this ECU. You may thank US emission laws.

Tadashi is still in Japan and hopefully when his health is better, he will come home.. X your fingers for the best, for both him and the new ECU development..

So... exactly what does this mean?? I know technosquare did reflashes, but like every other mod short of FI, it made like 5hp difference.

Does this mean they can make some decent power out of our ECU's now?? Im not really sure what the breakthrough is... someone clarify please!

They changed the 2004 ECU so it was no longer possible to break into--changed program code and the connectors...for emissions reasons apparently.

The reflash depends on what kind of mods you have. If you are running extremely lean (like I am, up to 14.5 a/f) then it is wise to do the reflash, if anything just to get your a/f back to normal. Doing the reflash with lots of high airflow mods should theoretically get you more hp than just doing reflash by itself...the ecu is tuned pretty decent, albeit a little lean, from the factory which is why you get minimal gains by itself.

Future prediction. The 2003 model will be the easiest model to mod. Seems like Nissan is trying to make things difficult. Wonder what curve ball is in the 2005 ECU.

It'll be inside a Safe with no combination.

it just dawned on me...that prior to this...TS couldnt reflash the 2004 ECU. Hope this gets completed soon, since I'm going to need a 380cc reflash very soon.

Nissan changed the amount of memory for the newer year cars... which means the amount of "stuff" that tuners need to decode is much larger.... so it will take some time, but expect something soon..

yay..

Really? I have a 7/03 build date and it's considered to be a 2004 model. So Nissan/Infiniti didn't change the ECU until October of that year?

I don't think that would work. From what I know, the engine and ECU are 'linked" so you would have to replace both the ECU and engine.

Sharif,

Can't our eManage units handle the injector change?

Yes, but a 280cc to 750cc jump is pretty enormous, and it might run a bit rough due to the extreme scaling. So it's better to go TS relfash to 380cc, and then do a 380cc-750cc scaling job with the eManage. Also, I'd like a TS reflash to finally get increase my rev limit, and also dial in some ignition retard...right at the source. Then I can do further fine tuning of fuel and ignition with the eManage. Credit given: SGP Racing.

Adam, as soon as I get my car back from the body shop, I will check. I bought my car in Jan 04, and I believe the production date was Oct...but I cant honestly recall with any level of certainty.
