Default Three tuning questions.....

1. Does anyone know if the thermal heat wraps used on headers and exhaust piping will do anything to make systems quieter as well?

2. What company(s) make forged pistons in the stock 10.3:1 compression ratio? I've seen lower and higher, but none in the same CR as stock.

3. If I used slightly higher CR pistons, 11.0:1 for example, do the stock ECU and fuel system have the capacities to handle this change properly?

Thanks. I'm narrowing in on my tuning decisions before my car goes into the shop for it's super-tune this upcoming winter

1. No

2. Yes, next time I see mjdens I will ask which ones he is running. Be prepared regardless to have to bore your motor out slightly to accomodate anything.

3. Yes

... Super tune?

... Super tune? [/B][/QUOTE]

Yeah....I'll post all details once I've actually started to put things together. Right now it's all just ideas. I'm not going to build some mega-hp drag monster, (been there, done that) but it will be a very thoroughly tuned machine. Powerful but street friendly. I do actually want to be able to spend time driving my car after I tune it, if you get my point.

Most major piston manufacterers can make custom pistons in any compression ratio of your choice. So yes...you can get 11:1 CR.

If you end up raising compression, you should look into a timing retard solution. The car, even in N/A state is on the verge of pinging...my car pinged at lower RPM...even when it was N/A. So increasing the compression increases the tendancy to ping.

If you need forged pistons or rods...PM me.

For tuning...the Greddy eManage with ignition timing harness is a cheap and powerful timing/fuel solution. Chris is experimenting this with his N/A car it it works great....it's not just for F/I cars.

You could also use the J&S Safeguard, or a TS reflash.

nope....there are plenty of quiet exhausts on the market though, so should not be hard to find one you like

2. What company(s) make forged pistons in the stock 10.3:1 compression ratio? I've seen lower and higher, but none in the same CR as stock.
As an off the shelf item, probably no one. But, it can easily be ordered, and any number of US manufacturers can do it for you (Arias and Ross come to mind, as well as others). In terms of doing it withs tock bore, again, can be ordered so no machining is needed. MJedens got slightly higher cr pistons but had them machined to be closer to stock, since he runs big N20 shots at the track (but is NA the rest of the time).

3. If I used slightly higher CR pistons, 11.0:1 for example, do the stock ECU and fuel system have the capacities to handle this change properly?
yes and no. The stock ecu can be retained...I would reocmmend having the car reflashed for your specific setup at one of TS's dealers. If not, an EManage can be made to work well as long as its in the right tuners hands. As for fuel system I would change the pump to something in the 160 lph range...that should be the only mods you need to do though. The mapping of the ecu will be the most critical overall
