Thumbs down

We're all doomed

See you after HIN then... at least it gives me a chance to polish the car properly

Only thing is I just discovered that one of my LEDs in the front reflectors has stopped working - Looks like it's bumper off & a bit of electrical work before tomorrow

Wish me luck

PS I Hope Squeaks dumps the blue colour scheme
PPS His PM box is full

Bollocks. I didn't get a chance to put your number in my mobile phone, Giles.

Seems the ONLY things I've got on my car for HIN is my induction kit and my new clutch/flywheel. However, I have been told that I'll have the car back by 5 and it sounds/revs a lot like a motorbike.

What'm I meant to do at work, with no BBS to keep me occupied? Surely not work?!

Jez,

A Domain Name Server converts domain names to ip addresses, ie 350zuk.com = 163.23.45.115. There are lots of these servers all over the world

There is a big central database which stores all the names and numbers.
Domain Name Servers hold a local (cached) copy of this big database

When you type a name into your browser, it asks your 'nearby' DNServer for the ip address, the database that your DNServer stores locally is a subset of the 'big database', as holding all the data would be inefficient, so if the requested name is not in its local database, it will ask another DNServer which is closer to the 'big database' if it has this info, which in turn may ask another, until a server is found that knows the ip address (if no DNS knows the address, then eventually the 'big database will be asked for this info).
When the DNServer you initially asked eventually gets the address it was asked for, it will then tell your PC, and also store it in its 'local database' in case it is asked for it again (caches it to speed future requests up).

The problem arises here... if someone wants to change their ip address, then the 'big database' is updated, but not the copy that exists on your local DNServer (and all the others), This will continue to supply its locally cached value to others that ask for it, until it determines that it should 'expire' the local record and get a more recentversion from the 'big database' (this is done via the other DNServers). This expirey time can be anything from a few minutes to a few days depending on several things.

That said...

The DNS is sorted now (or it seems to be), the actual site just seems to be f**ked up at the moment. Whether this is down to software glitches, hardware issues, bad planning or incompetence, I do not know

Keep up the good work

ehehehhe I bet it's FFog

btw it's Mark's (squeaky) fault since he probaly listened to RickB and changed my nickname to "TheChavel". You have to understand that they are all comedians at heart.
Problem is, like the last time they reset my post count, the "Divine Intervention" crashed the site.
They just don't get it... don't mess with me, ffs
