Default Big Bend Open Road Race

Ok you have a little over 5 months to plan for this...I was the ONLY 350Z that raced last year...Be really cool if there were a dozen or more this time!
Two legs, 59 miles amd 59 curves each, open Texas highway and fully legal and supported by the local police and sheriff's dept.'s...
Race against the clock at whatever speed you have the safety equipment to run.
Last year did the 110mph class with a tech speed of 124mph. Stayed about 122 the entire run. Most fun I have ever had....you've all done 100mph right? but for 30+ minutes solid?

Go to the website, read the rules and get prepared in January to register....
I'll be in the 135mph tech speed 150mph class this coming April...

Lets show the 70+ corvettes of the "Permian Basin Corvette Club" what the 350Z can do!!!!

looks like a lot of fun, Texas is a little too far for me to drive though.

Dont remember a single subie...would love to have you come out though...

It's weird about the cage thing though..vette's have a "stock" harness type bar and they let those guys go 170mph with out a full cage. I will have a harness bar with 5 points before I go back..Of course I would feel a heck of a lot better with a full cage but its not going to happen in my car anytime soon..

so while its fun to drive that fast for a prolonged period of time, the idea is to get as close to ".000" as possible on the time...april 08 110mph class I was 1:14 seconds from a perfect time...I came in 30th place! The winner was .008 of a SECOND!!! those guys are good!

BTW 2007 110mph class was won by a bone stock toyota camry!LOL

I can tell you its an absolute blast to roar down an open highway at 125 mph for 30 straight minutes!

If its your first time, you will have to pay for and attend the rookie school and the rookie qualifying. School is very informative and interesting...driving you will have an instructor in your car on a 9 mile blast to your tech speed. He will critique your driving and give valuable insight to racing an open road race....You make the instructor scream and you're out! LOL

The event is April 22-25 2009. Rookie class and qualifying are on the 22 and 23. I recommend being there the first day..you get your car "tech'd" get your numbers put on the car and you have two days to run the 9 mile course and "shakedown" your car. Plus stay in Ft. stockton and you will have to drive back and forth to Sanderson on the actual highway you will race on. So you get to see the road and check it out...lots of curves, a few blind hills and from 2-4 lanes variations.24th is the car show in the park and then the parade of cars through the middle of town...then get some sleep! you have to be at the park ready to get in line to drive to the starting line at 6AM! Be late and you don't race!

Not going to BS you...this is not cheap! Hotels, food, fuel there and back entry fees and rookie fees add up. It probably cost me $900-$1200 last year.

Promise you though WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!

one last word of advice..if you go..from the moment you drive into Ft. Stockton be on your VERY best behavior. If you receive a ticket while you are there for ANY reason you will be disqualified and will not be allowed to race. The local sheriff's dept. and police love this annual event and look forward to it every year...Texas DPS however are not happy about it and will hammer your *** if you give them the opportunity!

The comradery and meeting all those folks last year was awesome!

I will happily answer any questions you have about registering, the actual race etc..just let me know...

sorry..just saw this. I assume you mean to drive to Ft. Stockton...about 5.5 hours if I remember correctly..but I was in the dually hauling the Z in a 25ft. enclosed trailer and although the speed limit on 10 out there is 80...I was cruising about 70.
