So much for my previously "highly recommended" RT's. Now there are the "highly recommended" Crawfords.

If the RT's go, I think I will just put the stock ones back on.........since I was told the RT's would pass inspection when I bought them........but now they won't.

Unfortunately this is the problem with catalytic converter mods in California. In this state, it is illegal to replace your factory cats with *any* aftermarket cat. If your factory cat fails, you can only replace it with another factory cat. The only exception to this rule is if the factory cats are, for whatever reason, no longer available. Only then can you use aftermarket cats, and even then those cats have to be CARB certified.

The only way for aftermarket cats to pass a full inspection is for them to pass the tailpipe sniffer test (which most will), and pass the visual (which most won't). To pass visual, you'd need to do something that makes your aftermarket cats look exactly like stock, which would probably fool the inspector. (Depending on how good your work is and how lazy the inspector is.)

Everything you say is correct, of course. However, it is my opinion that inspectors don't have "the look" of the cats for every car memorized. Also, I believe all high flows, except the RTs, look enough like "a" stock cat, that they will fool the majority of inspectors.

Here in Arizona, they don't require an inspection until a car is more than 5 years old. I'll let everyone know how things turn out in 2009.

These cars run so clean it's not a real issue. My car passes Calif Smog (at the tail pipe) with cams, cats, ported/shaved heads and ECU work. (disclaimer) of course when I sold her I returned her to completely stock before any smog test was done .......................

Yup, same here in California, I believe. So I'm not too terribly worried about it. Worst case scenario: 5 years from now I bolt the stock cats back on, get it tested, then put the high-flows back on.

This is true. Actually, I am more worried about my RT's disintegrating internally and causing some damage.

No Idea on the cost? I just need on added to the drivers side cat.
