Up to 10K+ on the VQ you can see visible metal shavings upon every oil change hinting that the motor is still breaking in.

This is not true anymore. I have on many VQ's put Amsoil or Mobil 1 in at 1k of miles and all made higher than average hp on the dyno, and all of them did not use any oil. Engines are broken in at the factory before they even hit the car.

I switched my HR now at 1000 miles to Penzoil Platinum. It now has 2100 miles and no issues. It will get changed at 3k of miles to Amsoil.

In the factory manual it says: if you change the oil filter then put 5 1/4 quarts of oil. If you don't change the oil filter then put 4 3/4 quarts of oil.

I changed my oil filter and just put 5 quarts. It does not really matter.

a very encouraging first post of yours....

well, i can give something from my old specv..

it came with full syn from factory, I was spinning the tires leaving the dleaer lit and got my first race threw 3rd gear(ping redline each time) at 50miles. I NEVER lost to any spec with basic boltons or mod for mod. the spec was rated at running a 15.56 1/4. I ran a 15.001 my very first time at the track stock. After doing, I/H/E, motor mounts, and underdive pulley, I was running 14.2's, other specs from my group were still hitting 14.9s with same mods. And most were in the 15.8-16.0 range stock 1/4. I was also the only one who did a "hard" breakin.

i have been sold since that day on hard breakins.

FYI I never had any oil issues like other specs were known so well for. And the motor is still just being pulled after 92k miles in 4 years all hard driven. Its being pulled due to me and a turbo. Chipped piston while running too rich.

Just a post of a nissan exsperience...

SpecV, sorry if your talking about the Nissan Sentra SpecV, you are wrong. No Nissan came from the factory with a Synthetic oil in them. It is called a "Break In Oil" from Nissan and it's still a DINO oil.

Just changed out my oil at 4673 mi. The oil has 3422 mi. I am sending it to Blackstone for the results.

Yeah, I just dropped it off at the post office during lunch. I will definitely post results. I am very curious as to how AMSOIL will do with the HR.
