Default 07 Oil Change at 1,500 miles (Pics)

Well my car has exactly 1,500 miles on the odometer. I decided to drain out the factory oil and change the oem oil filter....

New Products:
  • Castrol Syntec 5w-30...purchased at Wal-mart for $20
  • Mobil 1 oil filter...purchased at Autozone for $10
Pics of my car

With 20% Tint

New Products:

It took me close to 2 hours. I know thats long but this was the first oil change I've ever done on my 350z.

The bottom plastic panel was in my way as I reached for the oil filter, so I took off about 6-7 screws just enough to bend it to access the oil filter. The oil filter was on there pretty tight but I managed to get it off with the oil filter remover thing....

EDIT:
TOOLS: 9/16 socket for the bolt in the oil pan, and 10mm socket to remove the screws in the plastic panel to access the oil filter (again I only removed like 6-7 screws)

The factory oil looked dirty with only 1,500 miles on my car. Just to let you know, I haven't tracked or redlined my car yet, maybe took it to 5rpm at max...

Dirty factory oil:

In the end I wrapped everything up and took it for a test drive. Honestly, I didn't notice anything different. But that wasn't the reason I put synthetic oil in my car, I just wanted the peace of mind that I'm running cleaner oil and not that factory **** oil.

I plan on running this Castrol syntec 5w-30 until I reach 5,000miles. From there on, I guess I will change my oil every 5,000 miles.

I changed my oil at the dealer when I hit 500 miles. I read somewhere that it's a good idea to change it in the first 500 miles to get rid of all the metal pieces that get accumulated during the break-in process.

I changed mine at about 935 miles and it was not that dirty. I romped on mine during the first 50-935 miles.

Just do it at home like I did. Its not hard at all, just be careful when jacking up the car and USE JACKSTANDS!! OR ATLEAST WOOD UNDER THE TIRE!!

How much does the dealer charge for an oil & oil filter change???

I think I read somewhere that it isn't good for this car. I'll be in for my first change right away and would like to know what is best.

Changed my oil at 1251. After hours of research on many different sites, it came down to preference. Some people say to wait until the break in, others say just to do it right away. Some people say that with new engines now a days, the break in is not the same. I just decided to go with what I thought was best. Since changing to synthetic, I have noticed better engine response but that's about it. I plan on doing an oil analysis to see how things fair as my engine accumulates more miles.

You guys are trippin for no reason, if you want to put fully synthetic oil in your engine, THEN DO IT! IT'S NOT GONNA KILL YOU OR YOUR CAR!...ignore what some jackass tells you over the internet....geeeze

And about the german castrol that was discussed above....I think it's available only in 0w-30 <==== TOO THIN BUDDY!

I live in a hot climate (HOUSTON) and putting thinner oil than recomended is dumb*** idea. If I were to put a different viscosity oil, I might have went with Mobil 1 0w-40.

Way too early for synthetic oil guys..Your pistons will take so much longer to seat properly and get better compression and more power !!
