I have also had an issue with my clutch sticking at about the halfway point when I tried to launch at higher RPMS. It was strange but as soon as I pushed it back down it came all the way back up so I didn't think to much about it. Clutch feels likes it engages to late for some reason. The clutch doesn’t seem to even attempt to engage until the clutch is 80% to 90% up.

It will also be interesting to see how these stock trany parts hold up to significant hp gains as they come out (SCs and turbo). Seems like forced induction will be out before any trany updates and with the current issues with the clutch I don’t think it would be very wise to add much HP without some kind of clutch and flywheel upgrade.

Tourinz, how did you adjust your clutch or did you have a tech do it?

I'm just off the phone with Nissan who advised there are "hundreds" of master cylinders, including mine, that have failed and are in the process of being replaced.

The dealer just told me that there is an updated slave cylinder out now, which was put out in October, and they are working on getting one for my car.

Unfortunately, the only way Nissan would issue a recall for "safety" reasons is if someone (or multiple people) got killed on the side of the road, because they couldn't change gears on their cars. Hopefully, that'll never happen.

Now that the 08 doesn't have this problem, Nissan will probably choose to deal with us on a case by case basis. Although a recall is the right thing to do for its past customers, there's no denying that "recall" = "bad press" for Nissan, and nobody at corporate wants that!!!

Perhaps someone on here with connections would like to call Edmunds or Consumer Reports and hint at the problem so the media can run tests and blow the whistle on this...

07 manuals are no better then the pre07s.. my transmission grinds 2nd easily when its cold.. I have to put pressure on the shifter before i shift into 2nd and slowly shift into 2nd to avoid grind.. and its not the "notchyness" this is CLEARLY a grind.. I tested this one time when I heard a grind i kept my clutch fully depressed and tried to engage 2nd and it grinded again.. so after that I just either start in 2nd when its cold or shift like a grandma that just took a bong toke.. but after the car is warmed up I just get the usual notchyness into second. but i'm at 8k miles now and no clutch issues.

There was no-one commenting on the tranny, I'm on my second tranny after losing 6th gear (synchro) for example. The clutch is suddenly an issue though.

your 07? fawk. I have a feeling the 2nd gear grind is a bad synchro too. and I know there was no one talking about the transmission.. but i felt i had to chime in because my clutch is fine, but just had to say that theres always something else wrong w/ these transmissions / clutches...

Here's two things you can try that might make things better... before you start your car, run through the gears a few times. I usually do that every morning because Evo's have generally notchy-*** trannys, and it helps a lot. Also, change to a different gear lube. I use (and recommend) Redline MT90.

Since you're saying it really only does it when it's cold, I think those two things will help you out. If not, take it straight in to the dealer... it will be covered under warranty.

I tried switching to redline when I first noticed 6th gear was getting tough, and it seemed to fail faster. The problem was initially one, but I think Redline actually is a little harder on the synchros than what Nissan uses. Haven't looked into it much as I'm still only at 6k miles on the new tranny and have had zero issues with it.

ya i was thinking about changing my gear oil with motul at my nissan dealer.. but ill debate on that if I grind more often.. so far its been 3-5 times total. Ill try moving the gear around... but for some reason the reason I feel it grinds is because when it's cold the tranny doesn't "respond" quick enough to the clutch being depressed.. does your evo grind into second if you shift too fast when its cold? Usually it'lll grind if I take it up to like 3k rpms in 1st and shift quickly into 2nd.. I have to keep rpms low. Probally the most embarassing part about this is when I go WOT after 5-10mins of letting the car warm up and driving around (oil pressure is at 15-20psi) and it GRINDS at 7500rpms... NASTY. I have to make sure I granny shift that if the gear oil is not warm.

Redline or Motul is a good transmission fluid to replace the Nissan stuff? What about Synchromesh, anyone have any experience? In my Prelude, 5th gear grinded like a champ, so I replaced the existing fluid with Synchromesh, and the grind completely disappeared. Good stuff!
