Default Swapping 08 VQ35HR Engine Into an 04 Z?

Okay as you can see in the title i want to know about swapping a VQ35HR into my 04 Z well cause my motor is shot and i need a rebuild. Ive recently come across potentially a great deal on this motor. Im talking the complete motor with only 1800 miles on it for less than 2500. My question is what would be my major obstacles in getting this accomplished? And how much additional cost am i looking at? I know i'll need a new ecu and wiring harness to make it all work but what else?

I heard it'll cost more than just buying a new car that comes with the HR motor.

^funny you say search, i doubt theres a lot of info on how to swap a hr motor into an 04 Z.

Its probably doable, but its going to be costly. Youll need the ecu which has a different wiring harness as previous years. You may also need the module that goes behind the ac controls and a new gauge cluster.

So,be the first to swap an 08 engine/transmission into your Z and please make a write up about it.

Well im hoping i can still re-use my transmission. but if i have to buy another one. the guy selling the motor also has a 6 speed manual trans to go with it and will sell both for 2500. Oh trust me if i pull it off it will be well documented. Any vendors up to the challenge of pulling this swap off maybe and getting some braggin rights to be the first in the country to do this?

I said search because people have asked about this already. Simple conclusion = Not worth it. For all the money your going to spend swapping every damn thing from an 07 you might as sell your car and throw it on a down payment.

try doing that with a blown motor. You wont get jack.

2500 isnt a bad starting price. he could just build the motor for 6k out the door and have a solid setup (what id do instead of a swap) but its his money/choice

Oh yeah, youll need a new hood as well for clearance. You may be able to try some solid motor mounts and lower the engine a bit to clear your stock hood but i dont think thatll work.

I searched there was one thread in the HR section about this subject and it was more about swaping the VQ37 out of the G37 than the VQ35HR. And 90% of what was said in that thread wasnt very informative about what it would actually take to pull this off.

please do this, so you can brag you dumped a lot of money into a car for bragging rights to say you upgraded to a slightly faster stock engine? i think noah and his ls2 swap is a bit more impressive and worth while.

exactly with my motor blown i wont get squat for the car. and thats why i asked about this cause its a very good starting price for what i would be getting. and its about the same price as ive been quoted from a vendor for buying another complete stock motor for my car. so i just wanted to see what kind of additional cost i would be looking at since both motors are the same price.

Then rebuild your motor.. cheaper and more power. Or save the 10-15grand you'll probally need in labor and use that towards a newer car? Whatever you do goodluck.

for me its not about braggin rights ive come across a good deal on the motor and just want to see if its feasable thats all. It would only be braggin rights for the shop that pulled it off. Cause there's only so much left to be done to our cars.

I would think that you'd have to swap the wiring harness, ecu, just about the whole center console, hood, transmission, and I think the exhaust. That seems like that would be it. As far as being worth it, I think if you built the motor and installed a twin turbo that I think is out now, but not sure, then maybe it'd be worth it. You'd have an updated car and very powerful motor.

Then again I could be completely wrong, I havn't really looked at the differences to much.

if ur gonna go through with swapping a motor, do something thats worth the money ur gonna dump into it. there is alot more money tied into it than the 2500 for tranny and motor.

if u wanna swap it, look into the ls1 swap, u can pick up an ls1 with tranny for less than 2500, and the rest of the swap will be cheaper cause hinson, along with uprev got/getting everything to work with stock electronics, with an hr swap, u'll pretty much have to take all the electircal stuff out of an 07 or 08.

then there is the 2jz swap thats in progress, but from what I see so far, it looks like its gonna be an expensive swap.

if u wanna stay vq, just buy a short block from one of the vendors and dont waste ur time and money on trying to get the hr to work like stock. this will be faster than the stock hr and by far ur cheapest option.

if it was my car, I'd go with the ls1 swap, but thats just me, and I love that engine, even still considering in the way back or my head selling my 07 for an 06 and doing the swap.

You looked to ask if it was worth it.
The deal you are getting is GREAT, but with an 04 you are going to have alot more headache then it is worth.

Added to all the above you will need wither 07+ Cats, HFC, or test pipes as well, as the HR has longer exhaust manifolds.

Just try to find a 05 Aniversary or 06 motor. Probably your best bet for a cheap swap out.
