Default Bumping timing question

Is it possible to bump timing on this motor? If so has anyone done it to test the affect and know the base timing and a safe range for a change?

Just thinking of free mods yesterday. I was thinking about trying it on my Pathfinder cuz my friend did that and a K&N on his and he said it helped his gas mileage and maybe a tad more umph.
I was thinking about maybe trying this on the Z also.

Sorry if this sounds stupid. I haven't done any research on this car yet or touched anything. So Im kinda new to whats in this thing and what can and cant be done.

The dealer can do a +2 with the consult, it can also be done with the cipher program.

More details please? Something thru the ECU I am assuming since this is DLI?
I am sure dealers would not want to do this or would charge to do so with much questioning.

The Consult II or III is the handheld diagnostic device used by the dealer. Not sure on the HRs but the DE and the rev ups have had +/-2 degrees of adjustment in the factory ecu. Some dealers are a little more versed with the Consult than others.

Cipher is available from uprev. It has some cool functions including the timing adjustment and monitoring of the factory sensors.

Nissan dealers crack me up. So much for free gains.
30 min labor for each vehicle.

I've heard of any where between free and 1 hour of labor even though it takes about 5 minutes. Have also heard techs saying it won't stay due to vaiable timing but it does stay. What's the btdc on the HRs? Should be a sticker under the hood I think.

That was going to be my next question if anyone had contacted uprev. They have not updated the cipher for a while now. Technosquare can probably bump the timing if the ecu has been unlocked already.

they said only 2 degree max and then it will kick back if past that.
I know it cant be a labor intensive job. Yea well, the gain is prob not worth the effort. Just kinda thinking out loud. bleh

If you find someone with a cipher in your area they can hook up to the car and do it.

I got this done as a friend of mine works at a dealer, it does only take 5 mins. Not sure about the gains though, had my car dynoed and it dynoed less than stock, granted my filters were VERY dirty, but removing them only gained me 8 hp and I still didnt hit the 265rwhp i hit stock...in other words the gains are questionable...I think it may kick it back.

I have recently done it in my car, I had to use the Consult III to do it, it wouldn't take it on consult 2. Definatelly felt a diference on higher RPM's. planing to get my car dinoed to see the results. The only thing about upping your timing is that you have to run 93 octane not 91, b/c it could create some pinging. I also run octane booster w/ every tank, diference definattely present there, will post dyno results as soon as they are done

I run 93 all the time anyway on the Z.
Curious to see if there are results though.

The only way to see true gains from the mod would be to do a before and after right there on the dyno. and maybe an after a month later to make sure ecu hasnt corrected...

We have a consult III here and I'm not able to adjust the timing correction to a positive number on my car. I can pull timing out, but it won't let me add any timing.

It may just be the card/program in the consult, I'm not sure. I haven't really looked into it too much.

Ok, did it on a friends car.... on his car it wouldn't take it on consult III (kept freezing the program) but it did take on consult II... odd

oK, unfortunatelly I did not do a baseline but this may contribute.... On my current mods (greddy tt exhaust and fujita intakes) + my timing bumped I pulled 294 on a mustang dyno... from what I see it's the largest number on a HR so I dunno what it means

is that 294 uncorrected? STD, SAE etc? Cuz I know my car dynoed 292 and Gooey's did 290 but they were uncorrected numbers. As soon as the SAE correction factor was added it brought it back to a more expected 276-285 range. Also I'm not as familiar with the readings from Mustang dynos. I know they say dynojets read high and dyno dynamics read lower.

https://my350z.com/forum/vq35hr/329662-post-here-your-dyno-slips-and-modifications.html

Here is the sheet... I know that in order to calculate what a dynojet # would be I have to add 15% to 294 which would bring me to 328...
