Default G37 engine vs. VQ35HR

Is there any difference really other than the displacement?

I know the G37 engine is 330hp and ours is only 306 but any serious difference?

Also I looked alittle bit on the search but is the VQ35HR better or no?

Zac

The engines are quite different. The G37 uses a VQ37VHR with VVEL and has a few other upgrades.

Engine for engine, the VQ37 is better. But car for car, the 350Z HR is still considerably faster.

+1...the Zs lower weight helps the car move better from a dig...

So the engine is better in many ways than ours? Hmm..wonder why they didn't decide to put that engine in the Z's?

I'm kinda new again to the Nissan scene coming from an S2k, but are the internals of the HR all forged by chance?

of course the new displacement is better but for the Z im still confused why did they go again with the 3.5HR since besides the NismoZ it looks to have a short life span with the 3.7 looming in the redesigned Z. But hey all the 3.7 is essentially is a bored out 3.5HR so lol..maybey it was all about the bottom line in the end. Its not like its a completely diff motor with parts 100% complelety devoid of what we seen in the 3.5HR.

But as we all know due to the Gs weight which has always been a factor because its a more of a GT car then a sports car the Z is faster but purley based on weight alone. 2 cars designed for 2 different things.

Does anyone know about the internals of the engine? Is it forged so that if someday we wanted to do FI in the HR engine it would hold up reliable?

i've run a G37. it was an auto, and i could take it from a roll. however, on the high way, they are pretty close. the Z still has the edge, but at the end of the day the G has everything someone needs, and Z still makes you feel every pot hole, and you can hear the rattling of junk in the trunk . but hey, i would still take the Z over a G37, because simply the G37 is not a Z , and the feeling is different, that is what makes me love the Zed.

The major difference in the 3.5HR and 3.7 is the cylinder head. 3.7 has the VVEL on the intake side, so in theory it can have infinitely variable valve duration and lift, up to the actual physical lift limit of the mechanical parts. The exhaust cam side, is still the same as the 3.5 from what I remember reading. Based on those limitations, you could ramp up the intake side lift and duration, but the exhaust side cam is still static.

was thinking the same thing. Kinda like the LS VTec swaps on the integra. might be worth looking into. Might yield some nice NA gains.

Though we would have to get the ECU along with the heads for us to take advantage of it but I can't see why we couldn't. Would we see the 330 hp or less, more or the same?

I think we could actually clean out the heads alittle more and get a porting job done and see alittle more but that would require reflash of the ecu or a standalone engine management.
