P.S.-there's no such thing as a "wanna be purist," we're that way for good. Hence why I'm not putting Rotas, Fujitas, and Injens on my car....ever. You'll only see *quality* parts from BBS, Arc, Volk, etc on my car. Purist through and through. Also purist need not=high price...shop around.

Sound is great compared to stock and really wakes it up a bit. I have since ran the car in the rain, no problems at all.
Oh wow, you just went from a CAI stock intake to a HAI Hot air intake.

You just lost power doing this and ruined the car. Great move.

props for experimenting with YOUR OWN car..

if it has heat soak now, guess what - you learned the right way and that is by seeing for yourself.

+1...still better than seeing a sock zip-tied over the throttle body of a Honda

Also, once you get really good at fabricating and learning what works, there is nothing like beating someone who bought all of the high dollar items with DIY parts.

It's just like a normal intake, I don't see what the problem is with you people. To all of you who say he's going to lose HP, blah blah blah blah blah, good deal though, let us know how that works out later. But, what do you plan on doing when summer time comes around?

Heh..... couldn't agree more with those saying you converted your cold air intake to a hot air intake.....

you just wasted about $250 worth of stock airbox goodness... wasted money and you lowered your power... congrats

well I dont think he lost much power. Basically he turned his intakes to what fujita, aem, and nismos are. A short ram intake that sucks up the engine bay air....

(Is that bad or good? I'm just saying it because you told me to.)

Only way I could think of saving this is by building a customer box that covers most of the surface area of the filter (if not the whole thing) and goes straight up to where the intake normally draws air. That way you isolate off the hot air. However if you do a good job you may see no performance loss. But I would suggest making this mod easily removable because you will have to clean this custom shi1 out since its hitting the filter midway instead of first.

I was always taught to learn from other's time, research and mistakes. Ever hear the term "Don't reinvent the wheel?" This holds true for our forum society as well...how do we make progress if we ignore each other's findings and start from scratch each time?

Dont take heat soak into consideration as I believe its obselete. Im pretty sure heat soak on the aftermarket intakes are a lot greater than these.

All these theories and what not about whether those work. lol. if they did work nissan wouldn't have made an extra tubing to draw air from the outside.. im sure it sounds louder though.

Ricer? If you think he is a ricer then he is not the first... Everyone with a 07 and an intake is a ricer also (using your logic). While I don't think his intake will make any more power it is no different than people with the fujita, AEM, and nismo intakes. He has all the same benefits (i.e. sound) as people that spent $300+ .

I'm going to mod my stock airboxes as well... Though not to the extent you have done. From what I have read, upgrading the intakes don't yield that great of gains... My money will be spent elsewhere.

Teh, nice profile picture. Sometimes you bite the bar and sometimes the bar bites you.

OMFG

The stock intakes are designed a certain way for a reason, and if you **** up that design, you just ****ed up the flow characteristics of the intake. Not to mention, you're now letting in hot air that wasn't getting in before. Congrats OP, you lost power.

This whole arguement about "well you do the same thing with aftermarket intakes" is ****ing retarded. The aftermarket companies (well, most anyways) don't just throw two pipes and two filters in the car... they go through a shitload of r+d and trial and error before they release a product to the market. Unlike Joe Blow in his garage hacking away at **** (**** that also has NOT been proven to make power, just noise... ), the companies actually take heat soak, flow properties and filter design (among other things) into account.

There are FEW cars out there that benefit from free mods... the Z sure as **** ain't one of them. You want free mods? Get a DSM.
