What you did was pretty dumb and now when you take your car to dealer for problems and you don't have your stock Airbox. And dealer is asking why you chop up your airbox..
Why your at it why don't you just cut a hole in front bumper and cut holes in catback and runs pips into it for more air..

Overall all Im very happy with this, it seems that with an intake most people only gained a good sound, and now I have that.
Haters can stay out though, I just figured I would give people who don't have a lot of extra money laying around, a way to improve without spending half a grand on an overpriced set of chrome tubes and a filter lol.

Guys, stop flaming the guy.... He is buying another set of boxes, B/c his experiment was very succesfull and he is going to start selling hacked air boxes now, for a fraction of the cost of cold air intake....

I have on order the same setup. $380 is what I'm paying for them.

- Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool
- Bodykit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire
- Clear tail lights and corner signals
- A "performace intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine)
- Most of these riced cars (a.k.a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, CRXs, RSXs, Del Sols Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Subaru Imprezas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow. Please note that some Supras, Skylines, WRX's and other higher performance imports are designed to go fast, and are therfore not always considered rice. It really depends on the severity of the case.
The "ricer" attempts to make their car "performance" by adding the modifications listed above. These ricers are not confined to any one ethnic group or color, however different ethnic groups are known for certain styles.
Honda Civics with big spoilers and 4" exhaust tips are considered to be ricers.

That describes all "Cold Air Intakes" on 07 350zs! Just like I was trying to to say! I do agree a "CAI" is no where near this bad and atleast they make the engine bay look much better.

At least yer gettin in der doin stuffs right?

P.S.-there's no such thing as a "wanna be purist," we're that way for good. Hence why I'm not putting Rotas, Fujitas, and Injens on my car....ever. You'll only see *quality* parts from BBS, Arc, Volk, etc on my car. Purist through and through. Also purist need not=high price...shop around.

I don't know if what this guy did helped him or not. But sucking air that isn't as cold as before sounds like a loss to me since it's not doing anything else to help performance. However, from what I've been reading in the replies here, most people seem to think that you can't improve on anything by "doing-it-yourself". I beg to differ.
A good example would be the intake for my last car, a 99' SS Camaro. I had at least 40 runs down the strip with my SS before I started modding anything, so I had a solid base of numbers to work from and judge my improvements. By simply cutting out the bottom of the airbox which allowed the air that was directed from under the car up and in between the radiator and air conditioning heat exchanger to be forced into the airbox (like ram-air), and removing the air baffler in between the airbox and the throttle body (which allowed the air to heat up before entering the engine for emissions and noise reduction), I knocked .4 seconds off my best 1/4 mile time and went from a 12.8 to a 12.4. That's not bad for a "do-it-yourself" mod which only cost me the electricity to run the dremel, wouldn't you say? I know people that have spent $1000 on bolt-ons to get that kind of gain. So don't ever think that you can only improve on something by spending money, because it's not always true. Sometimes it's better to spend the money, but sometimes it's simply a waste.

The question is, would you still have cut into your airbox if it was designed like the 07Zs? The Z's is already about as "ram-air" as it gets and contains no restricting baffles to remove.

Most people are specifically talking about hacking the stock airbox on the 07's, not about free mods on other cars. I'm all about free mods, but there's just some cars that they don't exist.
