Default Another Test Pipe Thread

Sorry, guys. I tried searching and reading all of the other Test Pipe HR threads.

So the exhaust is completely different on 07+?
So no parts will work from an 03-06? Or will some?

I know that on a Revup, some test pipes and a Y-pipe would provide some good gains and sound (resonated pipes) for a good price.

If the exhaust for an HR is different, is there still power to be had from a new Y pipe? Or just Cats (or TP) and mufflers (cat-back exhaust)?

Another noob Question - - how is the HR plenum? Any mods for it or is efficient from factory? MREV/Spacer/etc whatever?

Hope to just go with some K&N filter, resonated TPs, and Y-pipe...

Thanks, and again I apologize for old topic.

Best reply ever! Haha, thanks a lot!

So Test Pipes do not work, but the rest of the exhaust does. Not Plenum parts work. And the Y-Pipe alone does not yield anything. Did I match that up okay?

the thread is clear...
all previous year catback exhausts fit. No test pipes / hfcs fit from previous years.

Yes, thanks, I got that.

Moving on - Does replacing the Y-pipe alone yield any power/sound?

If you searched, you obviously didn't search good enough. Excuse me if I come off to be a bit rude, but it just bothers me that people like you say that you searched, when this particular topic has been covered millions of times both here in the HR section, and intake/exhaust section

With that being said, replacing the Y-pipe alone will change your exhaust tone a very tiny bit. The y-pipe alone is not enough for you to hear a drastic difference. I'd be surprised if you could even tell if there was one.

As far as power, it all depends on the exhaust you are getting. I have a nismo catback, and the y-pipe has two bends where a bit of flow could be restricted. A popular y-pipe many people go with is the JIC y-pipe, which believe it or not, looks like the letter Y. The "crimp" is thus removed as it becomes straight pipe from the fork into your catalytic converters.

If however you have a good exhaust that already has a good y-pipe, than no, replacing the y-pipe won't do jack.

And if you really are concerned with power, just get a true dual to start. Then, you won't need to worry about the y-pipe. And yes, the true dual exhaust from 03 up until now will fit your car.

Please search harder next time. Hope this helps :]

Thanks for the reply, really.
FWIW, searching is pretty hard - If I am too specific, "VQ35HR y-pipe power", I get nothing. If I'm too broad, "HR y-pipe", I get a crapload that doesn't answer my Q.

What about getting TP and Y-pipe but keeping the stock exhaust (mufflers)? So the Y is replacing the stock piece (prob not great) - but is it getting bottlenecked at the end?

Y-pipe alone hasn't really been documented. It may or may not give gains on an HR. I'd lean more towards it not producing much gains. Test pipes alone have been dyno proven to make good gains on the HR. Also full exhausts, single 3in, which includes replacing the ypipe, have been proven to give very good results. True dual exhausts, specifically the Greddy EVO TT have also proven to net very good gains. So far, I'm unaware of anyone doing just the ypipe.

Interesting. Maybe someday I'll be the guinea unless it's documented before then. Maybe I'll find a picture of the OEM 07 Y-pipe to visually inspect the bends/size. Y-pipe gains are ultimately effected by muffler efficiency.

Anybody have clips of resonated TP on HR (Fast Intentions?)?
Hate the rasp, but not worried about emission testing in WA.
Thanks!

Check youtube. They are there, I've listened to them many times. I'd find the link for you, but I'm lazy. Search for something like "2007 350z exhaust" and just go through the pages.

Bump. Still couldn't find links.

Anybody hear the FI Resonated Pipes? Any rasp?
Does it make the stock exhaust just a little louder and more burly?

I found clips of HFC. How do these compare in sound? Thanks!
