i feel like a retard. last night an old cadillac was creaping slowliy on a two lane highway. every time i tried to pass him, he would shorten the distance with the car next to him. so, i downshifted and i guess b/c i was leaning to the left (don't do that usually) i got it in 2nd gear instead of 4th @ 80mph. the tach just slammed 8.5k (close to 9k). it was just for a split second, i depressed the clutch quickly. however, the car feels fine, no issues whatsoever so far, but i feel bad. do you think anything has happened to my Z.

the limiter does not engage for misshifts. rev limiter only works when you upshift and hit redline. mis shifts is one of the engine killer.

Did you slow down? Rear wheels lock up? I did this once in my Tiburon during autocross... Was doing almost 60, went to grab 3rd but got 1st instead... VROOOOOOMMMM, put in the clutch instantly, back into 3rd.. was fine. That was at around 9K miles I think.
At 18.7K miles took it to the dealer for my late 15K checkup, they found a leak in the tranny and replaced it under warranty. I asked if accidentally getting the wrong gear like this would cause it and they said no would not be a problem as long as you didnt let it keep going without putting the clutch pedal in.
Never had any problems with the car though, so I dunno... but my front wheels locked up breifly when I got the wrong gear.

Ouch.. the shifter on the Z is one of the more direct shifters and hard to misshift IMO.. are you holding the gear shifter right based upon the gears or are you holding it like a gun the hold time? Your hand should be facing different ways based upon the next gear coming up.

If it's that quick, should be fine.
Side note: my boss once did a 2nd redline to 1st shift, missing 3rd, in his Accord V6. His reaction time isn't great, so he probably didn't realize what happened for a second or two, and ended up bending a bunch of valves in the heads. Had to get both heads replaced. He had a CEL light on after that, though. No CEL, you should be fine.

nope, no CEL, nothing. its just like it was before. i dont think that it has creacked anu rods or anything. the tach needle went to 8.5k. what if i were to get the reflash and revved the motor to 8k would it crack the piston rods? i think its ok , its just me. it weighs upon my conscience

The reason the rods would crack is because it isn't a smooth rev to redline and its not a loaded rev. The rods are in tension instead of compression and the crankshaft is loaded backwards. This throws balance off and the rods can get tweaked pretty bad. I'd be more worried about the vavletrain typically, but since no-one really knows the strength of the rods in the HR its something to keep in mind.
