no, the headers from a DE would not fit our HR cars. Otherwise there wouldn't be a new HR exhaust manifold design for aftermarket companies to produce.

It's been done already, follow the sticky at the top of this page. Credits go to Gooey for finding out the info from some cars that had it done in his area. I'm not just spewing random information because I like to read my own typing.

Fact. DE headers bolt up to the HR engine no problem, as proved by Sharif and the crew over at Forged Performance during their teardown of an HR.

The headers bolt up to the engine, it just doesn't bolt up to the rest of the exhaust without using the DE test pipes.

I am curious about this as well. I would like to see what someone can do with new headers, test pipe/hfc, and exhaust with a tune/reflash.

EDIT: T_K beat me to it.

Matter of fact, I think it's time for another update to my sticky.

EDIT 2: T_K, do you have the link to that info?

I read somewhere last week where a forum member bolted on DE headers onto his HR. If I recall, he got Stillen headers off a 06 motor and bolted them right up to his HR. That would mean that if us HR owners wanted aftermarket headers, we would have to have DE cats to fit the DE headers which would be on our HR.

Well, I'm pretty pissed now...

I bought test pipes because of the different flanges on the HR, and if I wanted new headers, I'd have to get headers that were built with flanges for the HR (so they would bolt up to the test pipes I bought. Stillen is the only one that I can see right now makes those headers.

When I could have just gone with DE parts... and had more of a selection.

I guess it really pays to have patience?

wtf

I still would feel better about my setup using parts designed from HR testing. besides, the HR has larger valve diameters.

I agree. The testing for DE headers was done on DE engines. Who's to say that testing on HR's for HR-specific headers won't yeild more power due to the engine's different design?

I'd stick with HR-specific parts.

Well, here's what I'm doing.

After reading the myg37.com thread on these headers, I'm going to talk to my mechanic and see what kind of an estimate he can give me for installation. Sharif said that it took around 7 hours for installation, so I'm hoping for a good deal on labor.

One thing that I am 100% on, is that I'm going to get a dyno done on Monday so I can see where I'm at before the headers go on.

Are these actually HR specific headers or just regular DE headers?

2003 - 2006 350Z Mild Steel - Ceramic Coated 508350M 508350M $548.96
2003 - 2006 350Z 304 Stainless Steel 508350S 508350S $656.08

2007 - 2008 350Z Ceramic Coated 409 Stainless Steel 508385C 508385C $699.00

2007 - 2008 350Z 304 Stainless Steel 508385S 508385S $719.00

I'll go out on a limb and say they're probably not the same, different part numbers, different prices, different applications... and one HR set is offered as non-ceramic 409 SS.

completely with you. nothin' wrong with doing a little auto work yourself. why spend the $800 on something that you know you can do yourself? spend the $20 and buy the maintenance manual.

The different part numbers could just be different flanges.

What I wonder however - is how people bolt on DE headers and test pipes without the y-pipe being misalgined. I know there is a flex point but it would seem logical (and Forged even said in their teardown) that the taller engine deckheight would lead to the necessity of a longer header to get to the test pipe connection point.

You could be absolutely right that did cross my mind.

Can't really tell unless you compare the two next to each other.

I'd like to see a dyno on a 350Z HR with aftermarket DE headers/test pipes or HFC

Its not really a concern to me. The stock setup is probably good enough to well over 350 horsepower, and the fact that to get over that amount would require some form of forced induction (or nitrous - which I wouldn't install headers to benefit from), and the most common form is to replace the headers with turbo manifolds, means I'm all of 0% concerned about going through the expense of header install for 5 hp.

I would however love to see someone make a set of hotter cams and either a reflash to retime the valve timing, or a v-manage setup with a decent starting point for the hotter cams. Would be MUCH more worth the money to me.
