dilemma 4.083 gears or stock gearing
As you guys know i am about to get done modding my car
. Therefore, i need to take care for one last thing and this is the long stock gearing. As some of you know with the technosquare reflash the redline is 8k and i think short gears would be really beneficial. However, i am kinda hesitant about it, but i want it. SO , i need opinions, and preferably encouraging opinions
should i do it or not

I believe 60 is around 2300rpms. It's pretty much a 10% change.
60 goes from 2100-2300ish
80 goes from 2800-3100ish
100 goes from 3500-3850ish
etc...
and yes, I keep a few sets in stock.

is it not 10% a really subtle increase that is not going to improve anything??

The 4.08 gears should be about a 14-15% or so change over the stock 3.53 gears?
All assume stock size tire and cruising in 6th gear.
Order is... 3.35(5AT)-3.53(6MT)-3.91(Cen20)-4.08(Nissan)
60 goes from 2000 - 2100 - 2330 - 2430
80 goes from 2660 - 2800 - 3110 - 3250
100 goes from 3330 - 3500- 3890 - 4060
etc...
I believe those are pretty close. If anyone wants to verify my numbers, it wouldn't bother me at all.

Here's some other numbers...
Approx maximum speed (mph) in each gear. Assuming stock size tires and 7500rpm redline.
3.53 gears - 3.91 gears - 4.08 gears
1st - 44 - 40 - 38
2nd - 72 - 65 - 63
3rd - 104 - 94 - 90
4th - 133 - 120 - 115
5th - 169 - 152 - 146
6th - 212 - 192 - 184
Once again, feel free to verify these numbers, my calculator may be off a bit?

I have nothing bad at all to say about going to the shorter gearing. I was slightly worried about the cruising RPM's as well, so I went with the 3.9's. It definitely pulls harder. I have actually noticed a slight improvement with city mileage, I think partially because you can drive at a little bit lower RPM's and it won't bog down at all if you have to speed up. The highway mileage does suffer very slightly, but only by like 2 mpg. Nothing that maybe cruising 5mph slower wouldn't get right back. Sorry for the slightly lengthy post, but I just did this mod a little over a week ago, and I love it.
I changed my whole pumpkin out of my 03 with my 4.083 and cusco lsd. all i can say is wow. the car pulls so hard. can't wait to get hfc's or test pipes and a ecu flash.
question, does this effect gas mileage?
this past month i was a little broke and did 90% highway driving at 55-60mph and got 420miles before the dte starting flashing showing i have 50miles left.

im still on my first tank my dealer gave me im at a 1/4 now at about 380 miles. the only time i really notice a differnce is if i stomp it a little. but im still waiting till my motor is broke in to really try it out.
I would stay stock, but that's just me. If you do change, without a doubt, you will consume more gas. To what extent is the question.
Stock gearing is fine, I am not trying to be an all out performance gear head, I think there are other ways to make better power. (Nitrous)
