How old were your stock filters?
Is it possible some of the gains were due to just changing to a clean filter, and not necessarily the K&Ns?

 

sure thats possible.....7k....Drew had less miles on his than that and he made 3 whp

 

less then 4k miles on mine...the stock filters look new

Looks great man! I just installed mine last night. The clips on the air filter boxes are a pain in the butt to get back on!!!

It hasnt been out for long......we should see some reviews before to long

 

Installed K&N's on my High rev base - seemed easier to hold a consistent speed.
No difference on butt dyno, but I don't ever "get on it". MPG's seem better.
35 mpg at 70mph - not bad.

 

If you sell the vehicle please do the ethical thing and disclose that you used non oem air filters and may have worn the rings excessively. Something you would want to know in buying a used car for someone you cared about.

Even imagining that air filters materially affect [ even 0.1 MPG] cruising MPG shows a lack of automotive engineering expertise. Since manufacturers must pay taxes per car based on MPG don't you think they would spend $79 to save $1,000-$1,800?

 

So are you saying all aftermarket intakes are bad for the engine? (Since they are either oiled cotton like k&n's or they're foam like HKS's and Greddy's).

 

In all the vehicles I have owned I have had k&n filters in every car and never had one problem out of them due to a filter.........I under stand the logic that if you over oil the filter when cleaning it you may have build up on your mass air flow sensor, but that can be cleaned as well.....so how are is there worn rings from an air filter.....?

Simple install a second filter after the primary filter [either oem or K&N] and weigh the dirt passed thru primary filter after 30,000 miles.

Study the following scientific tests and you will see how oem paper is much better than aftermarket IN filtration and dirt holding capacity..............sure aftermarket flow 1% better but at what expense.

Not sure I believe this at all...I've never heard of anyone having an issue due to a K&N filter...I had over 235k miles on my '88 944S with a K&N installed and no issues...

 

they breath better, needed no. but some performance increase plus having not having to replace, only clean, the filters is a plus.

 

was this from old dirty oem filters to new clean kn filters, or was it new clean oem to new clean kn?

Still, thanks for the post and useful info. I have read stuff back and forth about oiled (K&N) filters causing problems but then K&N was able to file law suits against car manufacturers voiding warranties. They even provided tests that showed that they didn't hurt the cars.

Still, somehow after I put a K&N on my last car it seemed to open a can of worms of problems. Whether or not it was the filter that caused the issues I'll never know.. but if I'm only missing out on 4 hp for peace of mind.. I'll stick to the OEM filters for now.

 

i should be ordering mine soon, hope it makes a little difference.
