I'm actually about to buy some Amsoil also, I've heard nothing but good things about it.. I want the same results, smoother shifting. So I'm going to exchange out the OEM tranny and diff fluids and switch both to Amsoil.

Red Line is good fluid, but it does not meet the Spec for Nissans. So if your in warranty that is not a good thing.

On my 05 G35 I noticed a huge difference. I am installing it today in my 07 Z. So I will let you know. Shifts were smoother than before and easier to shift when cold.

They also have MTL90: http://www.redlineoil.com/products_g...7&categoryID=7

Both are GL4 spec. They also offer GL5 versions as well

I run Motul in mine since it's what we usually have on the shelf - no issues at all (Gear 300)

A guy was at our tech day, and he had the RP 75w90 and I had the Amsoil above. We installed mine first into my transmission, went in pretty easy with the hand pump.

The Royal Purple though was thicker and took a bit more to pump it into the transmission in his. That should tell you something about RP.

Actually it doesn't really tell you much of anything at all. And to further compound it, what works great on one transmission (same car) doesn't always work so great on others - just like engine oil. The tolerances everything is set to from the manufacturer (or builder in the case of an engine) will often determine how a given oil reacts, etc. With transmissions, where most of us aren't doing rebuilds, really the only way to determine what works well, is to just try different things, and take note of each characteristics. My car has never had any tranny issues - no scratching synchros, no harshness or noises, etc. I used OEM (what the car came with) till about 30k miles, then went to Redline - no difference in how it shifted, which was great. Switched to Motul last time since we had it on the shelf at the time, and it too works great. On someone else's car, you might notice a difference between fluids - I noticed none which to me is a good thing, because my tranny never had any issues to begin with

Not every fluid of a given viscosity rating has the same physical principals. This is why, for example, Mobil 1 oil, which is very highly regarded, often pours, almost splashing, vs other oils (synthetic or non) of the same viscosity. The hot and cold "scales" that they use are in different units as I recall (had this discussion with my engine builder once), and that's why some oils that should pour thinner, actually pour thicker. I'm sure whatever additives each maker uses affects things as well. I'm sure there is info out there on the web describing it in more detail

Yep, there is a lot of info like on bobistheoilguy.com site. RP and M1 are not that good anymore and that is per real world tests. You want a good oil, you go Redline, Motul, Amsoil, Penzoil Plat, German Castrol.

I stopped looking at sites like that a long time ago, because tests are very subjective, and it's very difficult to get a truly honest review. The tolerances of an engine will skew the test results, and this is something almost never taken into account. As is typical in the internet world, everything just gets painted with a broad brush, and that really doesn't yield meaningful info. So, I default to the people who are smarter than me, who put my stuff together, and I run whatever they tell me to run. Has not done me wrong yet in 18 years
