Default My 1/8 drag race against a lightning!

I did some drag racing tonight out in Irwindale's race track. This is my very 1st time actually drag racing my car! I just had trouble getting a grip tonight at the line, no matter what I did, I couldn't get traction worth a crap I kept my stock tires at 35PSI cold, that could of been part of the problem along not knowing how to launch my own car from a dig. I do have a video of me racing a Lightning (supercharged).

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4671SWY8BlU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4671SWY8BlU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

My times for that race.
R/T: .621
60': 2.104
330: 5.739
1/8: 8.68
MPH: 82.75

I also raced a 07 WRX STI. I'll post that video later today.

The key is the launch. I had stock tires, with 23,000 miles of wear. I had trouble hooking, but my car had to power to pull through with good trap speed. I'm sure with better tires and a clean launch it will be very low 8's and traps of high 80's. I've seen a SRT8 Charger run a 8.66.

That STI race was my very 1st. He got me on the launch but I beat him in the finish.

There is no ideal or should be running time. It is what it is. So get out there and give it a try.

If someone lives nearby has a helmet they're willing to let me borrow, I'll go to a 1/4 drag strip.

Great time bro. Can't wait for you to hit up the 1/4 next with possibly some better tires and you shoudl have an awsome time

EDIT: Just outta curiousity, what RPM were you shifting at. I've read multiple theories on when to shift with our 8000K redline.

Thanks...I just let the car shift itself, I don't use the triptronic. I don't know if it will make the performance better or not. Anyone know?

So you never take your car to 8000RPM? I think with the auto it feels to me liek it lags a lot more and it's set to shift at 7500 but i think it really shifts around 7350. Don't really remember becuase i almost never redline in auto. My idea is that 1st gear goes by so quick it is better to shift at 8000 in first and at least in my case(max WHP around 6900) be in your powerband for 2nd but after that possibly shift at 7500 for 3rd and 4th becuase when your no longer making power in your current rpm and it's raising rpms much slower than first, I think it woudl be more beneficial to shift earlier than first. I really have no idea but thats my best educated guess. If anyone else coudl chime in and correct or give suggestiosn it would be helpful

My peak HP is at 6,900RPM. I don't know if it's better to shift at that point, due to gear and speed or if we should stay in higher HP's longer. Stall speed might play a factor as well. I mean I don't know if finishing the gear in at a higher rpm helps you begin at a higher RPM on the next gear or not.

I didn't use triptronic as I'm afraid to redline my engine in 1st due to wheel slip.

hopefully someone chimes in

You get wheel slip when you redline first? That unusual i think, unless you have a valvebody upgrade beaucse of the relatively soft stock shifts even on stock tires.
