Default HR Stock Clutch Strength

Hi buddies!

Just wanted to know your experience with the HR's stock clutch.

I notice its not as impressive as I expected it to be. Tracked it a couple of times already and realise that the clutch got weak after just a couple of laps.

Any comments?

Thanks!

It starts to slip after it heats up, I only have 12,000 miles on my car and decided to replace it.. Looked at the stock clutch when it came off my car, it was completely fine, it just sucks after it heats up and starts to slip

Someone had theirs starting to slip near 350-360 whp with nitrous, I was getting slip stock when it was warm, so your mileage may vary.

Stock clutch/flywheel sucks nuts, I managed to break the flywheel and thus destroy the clutch.

New parts FTW

my clutch went beyond slipping. It failed. 2 weeks ago,I stepped on the gas and the only thing that went was the tachometer. My first instinct was to shift thinking i had no traction.(even though i have VDC) and spinning tires, i shifted and the problem persisted; than the smell began. WTF? the problem has not returned since. kinda came and went. i hope it stays gone, but for now, I am saving for that upgrade.

Wow...looks like the stock clutch and flywheel sucks big time!

I am not pushing loads more power as I only have a full exhaust system so it ain't that bad but its just irritating to know the clutch feels weak!

Thanks all for the info!

BTW...anyone on non twin plate aftermarket clutch with flywheel to recommend?

I drove a brand new Nismo Z, and thought that the stock clutch was horrible. The pedal had a really soft, weak feel to it.

There was just NO comparison to the OEM clutch in my 03 350z, with 53k miles none the less...

IMO, 03-04s have the best clutches, but they are quite hard to depress, which is fine with me.

I have over 500 to the wheels and the clutch can not take it.

You replaced it with the JWT setup right? How is that setup holding up in comparison? I know there is still some speculation that the hydraulic slave cylinder is the major weakpoint even after the recall.

Only complaint is the noise from having a lightweight flywheel and a crappy transmission.

The clutch is how it should have come factory, good bite but fairly forgiving. Holds lots of power, doesn't seem to overheat, all around better.

The stiffer pressure plate I think overpowers the slave cylinder even if the fluid acts funny, the stock one wasn't able to as far as I can tell.

The clutch I am 100% happy with, flywheel 60-80%, there is a difference about the same as 15 ft.lbs. of torque makes if you kept hp the same (meaning mostly in the 1/8th I see an increase).

I agree it does sound like a hydro. pressure related event. I have had the recall done. It hasn't happened before-@29K mile- and*crossing fingers* hope it does not happen again. which so far it has not. to be fair though my z is in the shop due to being side swiped a week ago; I have not really put her thru her proper testing.

Thats good to know. I just put about 5 years worth of wear on my clutch on my last visit to the track from running on slicks and I see a new clutch coming pretty soon. This sounds like the way to go.
