Default tomei, arc on HR?

I have a 08 350Z base. I am looking at tomei headers and arc titanium exhaust. I have heard many different opinions, I know they are for DE engines, but some ppl say it won't fit, some say it will but won't have good performance. Anyone actually installed these on their car? Thanks.

i cant find the thread but apparently the de manifolds fit the hr at the motor but they do not work with the hr cats. so, if you want to use the de headers, you also have to get de cats/tp. the rest of the exhaust is the same for both cars.

Second that you are right. DE headers will fit the hr but you'll need to replace the full exhaust meaning DE cats or DE straight pipes then any catback exhaust like the ARC you mention or even stock. thats what i have been told from several people.

Thank you ppl. So let me make sure I understand, as long as I use tomei headers, straight pipes and arc exhaust together, then I'm fine since they are all for DE engines? Is that right? You guys are awesome! But what I don't get is, how is the HR cats diff from DE cats? In other words, what makes DE cats work with DE headers and exhausts but not the HR cats? Anyone? Thanks in advance.

I think, im not sure here but I think the DE headers are a little bit longer than the HR headers which in turn means the HR cats are a little longer than the DE cats but any Catback will work on both.

the flanges are different from the de to the hr. the de uses a flat gasktes and the hr uses a flange gaskets stock.

Thanks, makes sense. I didn't want to touch the cats because I know it's illegal to modify them in any way, but I guess I'll have to now

Keep your headers stock dude..you won't feel any difference if you replace them with aftermarket..

Just swap out the cats and exhaust for whatever you want..

The only advantage any aftermarket header that you can fit on the HR, will simply be from a higher and more efficient flow rate. Given the OEM design of the HR header, theres very little gains to be seen using that approach. OEM flows pretty well, Aftermarket flows a little better. The only real way to get substantial gains from replacing the OEM headers would be to replace them with a set that has properly designed tuned-length primaries and secondaries.

Default Tomei Extreme Headers Fitment For HR Engine

I installed in my 2008 350Z Touring A/T Tomei Xtreme headers & they fit perfectly. However, as it was pointed out on prior replies, you most use DE cats for a proper fitment & avoid gas leaks, which could potentially trigger the dreaded “Check Engine” light. As for power gains, the car lost power at low speed. I was able to perceive just little power after the performance Tune was done, but not until you hit the mid-to upper part of the top band. I presently also installed High Flow Berk Technology cats (DE); Z1 Motorsports resonated Y-pipe & single exit Tomei Extreme cat back. It is extremely loud & the torque was switched to the midrange, which sucks at low speed in the city. BTW, the HF cats failed emissions in CO, which just adopted the California CARB :-(

A lot of evolution has occurred in the fifteen years since the original and last response was posted. There’s really no need any longer to kluge a DE exhaust onto an HR (or VHR FTM). There easily as many (or more) headers than available for DE.

And I have to say it, after years of ignoring it….

It’s “Tomei Expreme”, a marketing conjunction of EXtreme and SuPREME.
