Default HR/VHR Headers on DE?

If used with HR/VHR Test pipes, will it all bolt up?

Yes they attach to the engine just the same. But the flange at the cat/test is different. Y pipes are the same tho. So will HR mani/test combo bolt to DE is the question

Pretty sure answer is yes. Also meaning long tubes for 350z de/HR and 370z would all be compatible.

from the research i have done on the topic, fast intentions stated that they did fit Z34 headers on an HR Z33 but it did require cutting out a section of one of the primaries and altering it a bit. i do not recall the specifics of the modification, but hope that helps.

However if I decide to put the headers into production for the 350Z HR I will have to make a permanent change. It is nothing major it is just routing one tube on the driver side slightly different to give more clearance between the header and floorboard.

HR Headers will only work with HR Cat or Testpipes. Bolts up to DE Y-pipe fine.

Here are some pics of me putting HR OEM headers with HR Testpipes when i swap my engine...

I have a how-to around here somewhere if you search my posts from last summer. You have to pull the manifold mounting studs from the middle pipes and swap the holes that they are in. They go from / to \ if you know what I mean. I used CNT Racing resonated test pipes for an HR. They were around $200. Not much gain best I can tell.

no putting the HR headers on a DE won't give it that good HR sound, reason being the engine itself gives the HR its sound because the HR motor is 80% different from the DE.

I have DC sports headers that came off an 04 DE and I have a 07 HR i haven't installed them yet but I did come to that realization when looking at the stock headers bolting up to my cats that the HR triangular flange is a more narrow triangle than the symetrical DE flange so I'll probably have to get DE test pipes to make everything work. thanks for the help guys

I think the people from 2011 might be a little off. I'm looking at LTH for my HR and the 3 manufacturers I have looked at all say the 350Z DE, HR & 370Z have the different LTH setups. They stated that the same goes for if you were to run DE headers/test pipes on an HR would not fit properly. I'm not sure why this is besides just the flange from the header to cat/test pipe. I know they'll bolt up to the heads, but beyond that I don't know.

I also noticed my Y-Pipe was not the same as my DE Y-Pipe. When I put on the exhaust from my 2003 350Z, it took a little bit of bending to mount to the HR as it was a very minor angle difference as well.

For these reasons I'm personally going with an HR specific LTH setup, but the Tanabe Y-Pipe and a single exhaust (selling my dual exhaust setup).

DE Headers/Test pipes will fit on an HR/VHR, as long as they're both DE (Headers/Pipes). Some people with the HR have done this with the Tomei test pipes / Expreme headers, and the VHR guys have done it with the Momentum replica (Z1 Headers).

LTH's are a bit different. PPE's 370z LTH's have less bends as the engine bay is wider, whereas the HR headers are more compact (so they're not interchangeable). I've heard however that the FI LTH will fit on a 350z with some modification.

Looking at any of our vendor catalogs it's apparent that the DE and HR exhaust setups are different. Would presume for a couple reasons: port config and engine width/height. Either way, why not get the right set to begin with? (I'm guessing you're talking about a used set...)

Besides bumping a thread that's over FOUR years old, why even try using parts designed for one engine on another? Even if they marginally fit, the design is not maximized for an HR engine. It makes no sense to try to save a few bucks while using a part that downgrades the performance of the engine you're fitting it to.
