Unhappy HR Slave Cylinder Seal Broke due to aftermarket Pressure Plate

I am sure I will not explain this correctly so I will have Bobby form S and R Performance correct me later in the thread
Basically on Saturday my brother and I went to Cars and Coffee, we showed up parked the car hung out with everyone for a few hours, then we decided to leave. We get in the car, I go to push my clutch in to put the gear in neutral to start the car and the clutch is like a feather and just drops to the bottom and does not come back at all, I was like WTF happened to my car. The car started by the clutch stayed the same. We spoke to some guys and we checked the clutch fluid and it was pretty much empty, looked under the car and there were no leaks. So we decided to get dome brake fluid. Got some brake fluid topped it off, pumped the clutch, and it felt like it was coming back to life and then all of a sudden went right back to limp mode.
At this point I called AAA and decided to have the car towed to S and R. While the car was being placed on the Tow Bed, we saw the leak and it was quite a large one.
The car arrived at S and R and we put it up on the lift, and removed the under panel and saw that the leak was coming from the Transmission, not good
Today that opened the Transmission and saw the problem. Nissan had not considered us using a thicker aftermarket Pressure Plate which comes with all aftermarket clutches (as I understand), the piston extends too far and in time the seal on the Slave Cylinder is broken. Bobby told me that they are manufacturing a part to solve the problem and the car should be ready tomorrow, I will not try to explain the solution or the exact problem any further as I will probably just butcher it. I'll keep you guys updated.

Has anyone else found this out? Is this old news? Looking to hearing others opinions and feedback.
Thanks.

the slave issue is well known on HR's - IIRC it's a recall item

Thanks, I know about the 2007 Recall, but this is an 08 and does not fall into the vin number recall, and I thought this was a slightly different issue.

I see - I thought it was just an HR, but admittedly I have not had much reason to look into the issue. Hopefully it's a quick and easy repair

We are making a 1mm spacer to fit behind the slace cylinder. This should help prevent over extending the slave.

so just to clarify, it was not because of the added load on the slave cylinder. correct ?

so if I go with a OS single or dual clutch as long as it does not over extend I should be ok ?

Unhappy Update

I got the car back yesterday, when I drove it it felt completely different than the set up I had before, the engagemnet point was much lower and the clutch feel was different I could feel the clutch vibrate now. I asked Bobby and Taylor and they assured me that this is the feel one gets with and Aftermarket clutch and that is should have been adjusted like this from the very beginning. Everything seemed fine with the car last night, this morning I went to tighten my dead pedal, (I felt it was loose last night when i got the car back) and I pressed the clutch just to see if it was fine and it was not, it was as limp as it could be again, I went to check the clutch fluid and it was lower then it was last night when I checked it. So I have a feeling I still have a leak, I am having the car towed back to the shop and will wait for their feedback. THIS SUCKS SO MUCH!

if you don't upgrade to a after market clutch and fly wheel and just leave it stock, you shouldn't have any problems correct?

I don't think the stock clutch will hold very long at his power level.

We haven't had any reported issues with the OS Giken clutch line, let me know if you need one.

I had a similar issue with my honda. The problem was the way my intake was positioned it was wearing a hole in one of the tubes and eventually all the hydrolic pressure in the clutch was gone. Might be something to check out and make sure nothing is rubbing.

good luck!

sweet setup btw.

my clutch did something similar too but only when i'm launching the car the pedals drop. So ATS came out with a product that solves all HR clutch issue. I have it install on my car and it feels great. Still kicking it in tho

kind of sounds like the prob i had, i had the recall work done and from then on i leaked clutch fluid, while not actually seeing anyuthing leak out. I had to ring it back 2 times of which they said they found nothing wrong BUT it stopped leaking after they kept it for a week the second time, finding nothing wrong!

I had my slave cylinder fail, and I don't think it was do to over extension (it can't overextend, it locks), I think it was because the force required to move the pressure plate was too much for the seals on the slave cylinder. A large part was probably due to boiling fluid in the slave cylinder drag racing.

There is always the ATS clutch system out there.

Personally I know there will be options with kevlar and metallic clutches that are easier on the slave. My buddies turbo E46 is running a spec 2.5 clutch and the pedal is soft as ****.
