Default 06 burning oil

i have a base 06 MT, and just before i put it away for the winter back in october, i noticed it was down oil. its gonna be back out on the road in about a month(cant wait) but my problem is that my warrenty runs out halfway through june. i think this goes without being said, but i will obviously will be keeping a very close eye on the oil level when i start driving it. as of now, i do not have extended warrenty, but i was wondering what everyones thoughts were as far as how i should pursue this. should i purchase the extended warrenty? do i just bring it into the dealership when it first gets on the road and complain about the oil possibly burning? and are there any other signs(other than it reads lower on the dipstick) that your engine is burning oil? and last but not least, if the do replace the engine, is it replaced with a rebuilt motor or brand new. thanks for the help
