Talking Advice on a base 2008

Hey, my friend just got a 08 base 350z. We talked about what mods he would want to do to the car ,after he gets using to driving stick and getting use to the feel of the car. I told him that he should get a LSD because base doesn't come with a LSD. The question that i have is, am i right for saying this to him?? Second what would be the pro and cons to not having a LSD when you start to do power additives or in that fact just being stock right now?

I just want to make sure i am telling my friend the correct info on what to do for the first mod to the car.

P.S his internet down so i am helping him by doing a little research on the LSD. O, and yes i no how to use the search button but before i do i want to no if i was right before i start spending some serious time looking up info!

another one of those "my friend.." threads

good question though I have always wondered myself, what exactly is the LSD's purpose and how does it play a role in performance..

lol no really it is for my friend! lol I mean why do i need to lie? Ya, i no its a good question and i told him to get a lsd that you can change from 1.5 to 2.0 way because that would be the best bang for the buck for anything he does.

yes i no what it means but i want to know the disadvantages and advantages of having one. 2. sense he is new to learning stick and has no traction control would it be good to get one on the car as fast as possible? Or,will he be fine until he starts adding rims and more power to the car? Its a simple question, if you don't have anything positive to say then don't say it please.

LSD offers better traction during acceleration in corners because it shifts power to the wheel that ISN'T slipping. An open rear-end transfers power to the wheel that IS slipping.

Some would also argue that LSD would help more while launching at the drag strip, but I've seen open rear-ends do just as good as LSD at the stock levels.

I suppose the biggest benefit of LSD to the "younger" crowd would be that you can leave 2 burnout marks for a long distance which you can't do with a open rear-end.

Hope that answers it for you.

Unless he is going to race his car on the track, autocross, drift, its not necessary performance upgrade. If your driving on the streets and push your car to the point where you need an lsd, your probably endangering others life and your life as well.

at least you dont have the shitty viscous oem lsd.... the stock lsd is just as bad as not having one.

i would look at the quaife, cusco, or the os giken lsd

- 1.5 way LSD

Activates under acceleration while the understeer is less than on the 2 way LSD.Recommended for drivers having difficulty with 2 way LSD understeer and one way LSD braking.

- Two way LSD

Recommended on the rear axle for rear drive cars. Activates on both acceleration and deceleration. Recommended for those who prefer hot driving action and big angle drift.

I have an 07 base and my favorite mods were an exhaust and a new rear diff with factory LSD and 4.08 gears.

Does the 2008 350z Base come with an LSD of any sort...?

I just bought one... WOOT!

I'm curious! What's the major gain that you have seen with the new 4.08 gears and "Factory LSD"

All the base models come with an Open Diff. Quaife has a direct replacement for the base model Z. IMO this is the best LSD for someone who's not going to be racing. Under extreme heavy acceleration power can still get transfered to the wheel without traction if that wheel is under extremely light load.

As far as first mods go. An LSD is good but starting with suspension is better. Just my .
