I am happy with my NA build w/ gears! I am very close to the 300 RWHP. My car pulls hard. If I had DR's and a clutch and knew how to drag race it would run 12.7-12.8 in the 1/4 Hell Andre's car is no where's near as heavily modded as my car and runs 12.8 in the 1/4.. He is just an experienced drag racer.

I would like to have my car dyno tuned one more time with drier air then when I last had it done. Air was cool but humid on my last trip.

If I installed TP's and added a race gas tune I would be over 300 WHP. I'm just not interested in going down that road though.

anyone notice the OPs location?

Afghanistan.

Thats maybe the one guy that deserves to d#ck around on my350z where he gets bored to daydream about somewhere else.
Its cold, its dirty, everyone looks the same (ie friends vs ppl who want to shoot you) and theres people up on the mountainside shooting pot shots at you everyday while youre in morning formation at 5am. My pal just got back and man.. the pictures... whew.
ILL STUFF.

I choose my cubicle, but thank you for serving so I can.

Gearing really wouldn't increase horsepower would it? I am just thinking it would have a drastic effect on acceleration which is always nice...
For you guys running changed gears....how much would you say it was completely finished start to end...installation, parts, etc. etc.?
From what I've found so far maybe $500ish for parts and if you go with a Quaife LSD another $1200? Would $2500 all said and done be in the ballpark?

Quaife+Gears+install = $2500-2600

So CTZ your in the ball park! It doesn't add HP, but man does it boost acceleration!

I'm thinkin its a mod def. worth it.....I know its a whole different ballpark but when i changed gearing on my streetbike huge difference....
I don't mind if I loose top speed..........would love to tap that thing through the gears that much faster.

Might be a dumb question, and it is off topic from the original post, but will gears affect the speedometer reading?

Gears will not affect the Speedo what so ever!

You will loose top speed, but seriously how fast do you need togo? I was doing 165 mph on gps with my car! So the Gears thread is right on. The car will top out around 172-174 mph with 4.08 gears.

Like Lakeside said, gears will not affect the speedo in a Z. In many cars, yes. But the Z looks at sensors in the rear wheels to gauge speed, so changing the FD ratio will not have any effect.

Anyways, more details are in this sticky about gears. I know it's a long read, but it's a GOOD read. I wish it was longer, b/c when it comes to things that make me happy, I can never get too much information:

Assuming a tune with the rev limiter set high?
Sounds theoretical....

You guys realize that changing the final drive only makes an improvement in 1st gear, right? Every other gear will have the same (or very very close) acceleration to the stock 3.5 FD.

Not true at all!...... Even in 5th and 6th gear on the highway at say 65-80 mph you will notice increased acceleration and passing ability. You will feel it through ever gear not just 1st.
