07-08 wheel bearing/ hub
jacked the rear up today to give it an inspection and my driver side rear is fawked. There is like an inch of play. I think im going to avoid the stealership and just do it myself. Anyone know if the 07-08 wheel bearings are the same as the previous years? i did a quick google and the sites that had oem replacements had the same part # for both 03-06 and 07-08.
I tightened it up to factory specs but the wheel still wobbles so my bearing is shot for driving it like that. My 08 just hit 12k miles. lol
Typically, you grab the wheel at 12:00 & 6:00 and shake to check for a bad hub/bearing. Grab it at 3:00 & 9:00 to check for tie rods. While you're shaking it, it's best to have a second pair of eyes verify exactly where the movement is taking place.
I just replaced my passenger-rear hub & bearing(from the dealer, the rears are separate) at 16,000mi.

It seems to be the same part number(43210-AL505) for all 350Z's.
As far as the reasoning, I don't have a clue. What I DO know is, Nissans have had a history, overall, of having premature wheel bearing failure. I've replaced more wheel bearings in Nissans than any other makes. From Quests to Altimas, Maximas & of course our beloved Z's.
(BTW, the part number for the hub is 43202-AG000 if anyone needs it)

dont just replace the bearing. nissan replaced the bearing as well as the whole hub assembly. also got a new axle cause they broke it.

these 07/08s are absolutely craptastic. ive been trying to give these cars the benefit of the doubt, but i cant live in denial anymore. from these wheel bearing/clutch issues/transmission issues/passenger seat airbag sensor/serpentine belts shredding for no reason every 12k miles/embarrassingly fragile paint/equally embarrassing black rubber coating on interior that comes of with the gentlest of use/hatch shocks failing - its just unbelievable (esp since this was Nissan's premier vehicle for a number of years).
granted, some of these are hr only problems, but you would think by the 5th year of production, they would have this ******** figured out (transmission for example)

^^^ +1... I checked my wheel bearings etc... When I went to shake/move the wheel horizontally and vertically it did not budge.... so i guess I'm alright there...

one should not have to rely on "luck" when it comes to owning a vehicle, especially when it is made by one of my top 3 (Honda, Nissan, Toyota) and cost more than 30k
i had to replace my rear passenger side bearing before i even did my first oil change i think. i was so upset. and in the past few days i think the rear bearing is bad again im gonna have to check hopefully its the opposite side and not the same side in which they replaced the 1st time.
I think I may have a possible wheel bearing problem as well, at freeway speeds above 90mph, I'm getting massive tire roar, groaning and whirring and a bit of vibration seems to be comming from the front of the car. I know this can't be tire issues as I bought brand new tires (nitto invos). I'm guessing the wheel bearings are shot.
I replaced my driver's side rear wheel bearing the other day. I noticed a slight swaying on the highway after I put my new tires on a couple of months ago. I attributed it to the new tires at the time. I then jacked it up one day and the driver's side rear wheel had a small amount of flex (play but not loose) in it. A few day's later I went to check it again (while I waited for the bearing to come) and the wheel was loose. It had about a 1/2 inch of loose play each way because it had worked the axle nut loose. I'm surprised nothing happened but all is well now that I have replaced it. I had about 15-16k miles on it when this started...really unbelievable.
Update: I had to replace this pos bearing again last Friday
. Unbelievable, I had put maybe 5k miles on the new bearing, torqued everything to spec with a Snap-On digital torque wrench, and it still went out.

Hmmm.. didn't expect to read what I just did. I'll have to inspect mine too. I just hit maybe 14k? I drive it pretty hard though.
At first I thought this had to do with the rear end itself since I had to have the whole rear end replaced at like 4k. But that's because the rear axle bolt came loose and caused my rear end itself to shift out of place.
