Default SWAP VQ35HR for VQ37HR

Just curious if this is a simple swap or a no go

I recently bought a 2008 350Z with a broken engine. I found a VQ37HR from a G37x or something to that extent. Far as I can tell they both have dual intakes and share the HR designation. The only differences I can see is the VVEL and the rev matching feature for the manual transmission.

I'm not in it for the extra power though I welcome the idea and this is so far the only engine I can find locally.

Nothing is ever simple! Somewhere around here there was a thread on this. But I think it was in regards to swapping a VQ37VHR into a DE car or maybe it was an HR. Either way, it would be alot of work. Driveshaft would have to be custom made I heard. ECM's wouldn't be compatible. I'm sure the list goes on.

These two systems alone would require extensive work on the ecu, rendering the stock 350z ecu useless against he new VHR engine. A new, unmapped 370z ecu will not be cheap at all, and thats a whole different ballpark to begin with. In my opinion, its not worth the effort of making it all work when you can just get into a 2009 370z for maybe not much more than what you paid for the 08 350z.

Be cheaper to rebuild the VQ35HR that you have or buy another. But hey here's a good chance to do a fully built HR engine or stroker! That would be badass!!!!

I agree.

Cheaper to rebuild the HR since it's already a badass platform to start with. Make it a mild stroker and you'd have a sweet NA that's ready for boost.

from all thoes threads above imho the way to go would be to rebuild the original engine and reinforce everything, and go F/I

I appreciate all your replies and support. I forgot to mension the damage is pretty bad (broken block to be exact). I need another engine that's where the VQ37HR came in the picture as a possible replacement.

I know now the sedan G35 & G37 transmissions are the exact same 2007-2009 (6sp manual RWD). I think the gear ratios is why my 350Z transmission is different.

G35 sedan and G37 sedan (2007-09)-(6sp rwd transmission)
350Z (2007-08) and G35 sedan 2007-08 same engine (VQ35HR)

Basically I'm thinking the VQ37HR should bolt to my transmission because my 350z engine is the same as the G35 sedans and that transmission fits G37. Therefore they must all be similar.

The G35 Coupe far as I've seen never got the VQ35HR so it must be the sedan only.

Rev-matching wouldn't matter, it's just an engine. The vvel would matter though. You should just get a new high comp short block. For the HR it might be 5 grand, but you'll have more power than stock, assuming that the heads and other stuff from your motor are rebuildable.

Strokers are huge money vs a well built 3.5, but it would be awesome.

The bottom end in my engine is shot the crank pulley is broken as well as the timing cover and oil pan. Can't possibly be rebuilt.

Dam it just do the build. Im thinking of doing the vq35hr drivetrain onto my o3 g sedan. A lot of work but it can be possible.

Ok you should just find a good salvage engine then. That's your most economical way to go. They come with all that stuff, plus you'll have some parts off the old engine to sell.

take the heads off the VHR and put the HR heads from the blown engine on it... then you will have a VQ37HR... all without the price of stroking... both engines use the same bottom end... problem is the VHRs burn oil and the main bearings are aluminum (not Tri-metal) heat the oil to 300 degrees... kiss your engine goodby...

you must be joking... the VQ40 block is so tall there is no way to fit it under your hood... no lower intake manifold will work and the bellhousing for the 4 liter is ginormous!!!
