Default 4.08 Gears

I did some searching on these for the HR and couldnt find anything out. Is the top speed shortened down once the gears are installed or is it normal and just hitting top speed quicker? I know its 15% quicker acceleration, etc. Just couldnt find anything out on the top speed. Hope this doesnt sound confusing. Any help would be appreciated.

Top speed would essentially be shortened, unless you plan on revving further then before. Final drive affects the ratio of all the gears, so you'll find yourself shifting sooner in all gears than before.

Top speed would be mechanically limited, but I think our top speed is electronically limited before the mechanical limits come into play, and would still be the case with the gears.

True! The factory limits the speed to 155 mph I believe. Now if you use UPREV this limiter is removed!

No. 207 (gearing limit, not drag limit). Notice all the final drives list from gears 1 through 6. It's assumed it's a manual transmission, the numbers would be entirely different for a 5AT. Stock is 3.5, not 3.3, so the 3.3 numbers only apply if a 6MT installed the 5AT 3.3.

I know you were just joking, but just to clarify how to use the chart.

I think revs in 6th on stock gearing is just a little over 5000 at 158mph (hit the speed limiter). Wasn't really watching the tach that carefully, but 5th ends around 145 and 6th is a big drop in revs. So there's plenty of room to hit the stock limiter with more gearing, and it would get there quicker.

I never hit the limiter in my 07' Nismo but in my 06' base Z I hit the limiter in 5th gear. I just felt power drop off and didn't know what happened. It was pretty close to redline in 5th so I shifted into 6th gear and still had no pull....then I saw the digital speedo and knew lol.

I'd love to get a set of 4.08's in my Nismo...I just don't feel comfortable doing it myself yet.

Slightly OT but I picked up a 370Z 6MT pumpkin that I'm going to test fit. I'm pretty sure it works. They have 3.7 gears (ours are 3.5). So a slight bump for very cheap.

Aren't these the same gears out of the pathfinder? You should be able to get them dirt cheap at a junk yard.

Yes, thats possible, but its not a complete axle your looking for or that they would sell you, so odds are it will be close to the same price...

you would then have to dissassemble the solid axle and remove the ring and pinion then trash/discard the rest of the solid axle.

great....another idiot putting others in danger on the hwy......

Keep it on the track....

I find driving my car on the street boring and mundane after attending Drift and AutoX events...
