Default diff swap

I have a 08 base Z and found a vlsd complete diff w/axle stubs from a 08 nismo for suuuper cheap and decided why not. i already know people will tell me that i should have just saved for a real lsd but this deal i just couldnt pass up.

I've been searching around for a DIY/ tutorial simply on a diff swap and didnt find much. Could anyone just brainstorm for me a quick step by step of how to do the swap. Also, does the vlsd diff take different fluid then a base model non lsd diff would take?

Thanks!

Cliff Notes version (please refer to the Quaife LSD DIY for pictures)

1) Jack up car
2) Remove rims
3) Remove exhaust mid pipe (14mm goose neck + pb blaster)
3) Disconnect endlinks from sway bar (14mm)
4) Drop sway bar (14mm)
5) Remove speed sensors and carefully tuck them away (12mm goose neck)
6) Disconnect driveshaft (17mm goose neck & 17mm wrench) place driveshaft down gently
7) Disconnect drive axles (14mm socket + short extension & 14mm wrench) tie up your axles so they aren't hanging freely, make sure your parking brake is released and car is in neutral, otherwise you wont' be able to rotate the axles.
8) Loosen the rear diff nut located on the rear subframe (17mm deep socket)
9) Loosen the front diff bolts on the diff's ears (17mm socket)
10) Place transmission jack under diff. The diff is held up by 2 bolts and 1 nut. Remove the rear nut, and slowly remove the front 2 bolts. Lower the diff until you can reach the breather hose. Take some needle nose pliers and disconnect the breather hose.
11) Slide the transmission jack towards the front of the car until the rear stud clears the subframe bushing. Then lower the diff completely.

Installation = removal in reverse order with proper torque specs

GL5 75w90 is recommended.
You can find mobil1 gear oil at kragen, autozone, etc...
or you can order any other brand online

Id suggest taking off the cover and cleaning the inside of it. It gets nasty back there. Do this at least one day in advance, so the new black rtv has time to cure. Remember to clean off all the old rtv w a razor blade then clean w brake cleaner or whatever prior to using the new black rtv

How did your swap end up going? I finished mine a few days ago and i love it...

Def worth the little bit of money i spent! You dont realize how horrible the Z with an open dif is until you put a VLSD in it haha...

I'm about to do the same swap. I spoke to a guy who had a few wrecked z's and g's. He doesnt know much about them. I had to explain to him that the base trims had a different diff and I needed one out of any other trim. He told me that he had a pumpkin from a Z with 30k miles. I asked him to check if it was a base by checking the calibers. He told me that two of the G's had brembos and the Z didn't. He told me that the pumpkins were removed and he had the one I wanted with 30k on it.

Is there a difference between the two pumpkins. I want to be sure I am not buying open pumpkin and this guy doesn't care/know what he talking about and just wants to make a sale. I know that there are sensors for the traction control on the VLSD but do the open pumpkins also have a spot for the sensors but just no sensors? Is there any other way I can tell.

Thanks for the help!
