Default VQ35HR sounds a bit coarse inside when sitting in the car + whirring sound

I've noticed that my VQ35HR engine tends to sound a bit coarse from 1000-3000 rpm inside the cabin, and provide a bit of a vibration/whirring sound from the instrument cluster area. It was like that when I bought it so I'm not sure if that is usual sound for this engine. Externally the car sounds great. Is this normal, and if not, any ideas as to what it could be?

All the flywheels make this sound, it doesn't meant its worn out. It's a common problem in most Z's.

I had that sound when I changed the clutch & flywheel on my Eclipse, But eventually it went away as the clutch seated itself. But I have heard nothing from the Z's flywheel.....or maybe my sub-conscience tunes it out for me.

I studied the sound a bit more on the way home today and the way I originally described it is not completely accurate.

The noise starts at 2500 rpm and the pitch of it goes up as the engine revs up. The best way to describe it is as a metallic whirring sound.

Does your car have HFC's or test pipes?

The metallic whirring sound makes me think its rasp from a test pipe or hfc setup..

I took it to the dealership and took one of the service managers around for a drive. He said his G35 has it as well and its very common on 350's and G35's and not indicative of any problem and to not worry about it. My car is out of warranty so he had no reason to lie about it.

Reading more on these forums, it seems to be most similar to the issue posted in this thread:

https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance...-fix-help.html

A metal-to-metal buzzing sound exacerbated by engine vibration, but for me on the drive side. I'll try to fix it this weekend and report back!
