9 coats of clear pearl sprayed on inside of rear light covers; looks unique and I really like them; never seen any like this. The shop also sprayed all emblems and door handles gloss black:

Dual pillar pod; have black and silver, currently have them with silver outer rings on them. Also a TWM 460 gr. shift ****; Abrahms "black pearl", really glad to have it:
Did all main engine bay bolts with hex head black chrome bolts/washers. Adds to the look and recommend doing it:







A couple of cars that I had: '77 Datsun 280Z (in '78) straight 6 engine (sporting it's black "bra"/Porsche had a black bra too), with stock wheels/tires shown; had a nice Summer setup with wider wheels/tires. '77 Porsche 911S (in '85) with flat 6 air cooled rear engine; was a gas to drive especially in canyons and on the open road.......2 fun little cars.

This post is mostly for Tim (OldManZ350); I couldn't attach these pics on a private message to him so told him to look here. Tim is the man when it comes to this stuff haha! Anybody is welcome to comment on this post.

One of the main questions is if the 8 rib blower pulleys/belt are fine to handle the extra power/tq of the Si? Or are cog pulleys the only way to go?

I'm thinking of maybe upgrading my Stillen (Vortech) SCi trim to Si trim and have talked to Vortech (they offer this service) about this upgrade and am trying to get a few ideas and details about it all.

*One thing to note is that I'm not trying to max out whp or push the limits that the Si trim can reach on my stock HR block/internals, but would love to achieve a good solid and consistant 425 whp zone if I can! Here are a few pics:

I'd try it with what you have for belts, if you get slip with the belts tight then going to a cog type instead of the 8 rib may help.

Big the bracket is flexing, I'd figure out a brace or radius rod of some kind.

Yeah, if I ship the head unit to Vortech for surgery, I would put in a new blower belt when re-installing, keep an eye on tension as belt breaks in then after it gets a new tune I would be paying a lot of attention for any belt slip; if needed I would install new cog pulleys and the correct belt; I'd hit you up on suggestions there, plus I'd be interested in one of your bracing units if it will fit my setup ok.

 

I removed my SC head unit today so that I can get it sent into Vortech for upgrade from Sci trim to Si trim; they will put all new bearings/seals in also. Plus, I ordered it to be powder coated ($300 extra) flat black (only color they offer) which I think will look cool! I look forward to getting it back in about 2 weeks, then I'll work on getting a new UpRev tune on it and should notice some significant power/tq increase.













During the down time I will clean air filter which looks clean haha, and do some good detailing so it will look nice for the new secret weapon!

*question for any SC/Vortech guys: With the SCi trim I figure that I've been approx. 370 whp or so with maybe 330 ft/lbs. tq. With my setup (full md exhaust, 2.87 pulley, etc.) what #'s could I be looking at low end ballpark once I get it re-installed with a good tune? Possible +50 whp? Just curious.

 

It's been 3 weeks since I shipped the head unit of the SC (UPS) to Vortech, called Jamie there (Oxnard, CA) yesterday for status and he said that because of the powder coating it adds about an extra week because Vortech sends it to a place in LA for that.

They had shown me some pics of some wear on the sc shaft and now I'm getting their "major" service done; will have new shaft, bearings, seals, gears and upgraded impeller (Si), so it will be great to have back; probably in about a week. Will be like a brand new unit. Luckily there is a Grand Prix (nice car, but again it feels "top heavy" and more like a boat) to use when I want during this time.

*should I move my car a bit to try to avoid any flat spots on the tires, or am I ok for another week in the same spot?

 

You will b fine. I had my Z parked at the shop for months on my winter beater wheels and tires and I developed no deformed tire spots. Good luck to you on the upgrade, Blue!

 

Well, well. I just got a call from Vortech, got it all paid for and they said it will ship out today! Now my day isn't so boring; 75 degrees and that Spring fever is here

 

I personally can't wait to hear about dyno results after install and tune, Blue!

Oh, and I second what Bluestream said.... your tires will be fine. If you're concerned, put it up on stands in prep for the S/C re-install. But not needed.

 

Just got the blower unit back from Vortech and got it re-attached to the mounting plate (1/2" billet aluminum) and put a new blower belt on. I really like the powder coating job also. May be a couple of days before it's ready to try out due to visitors in town; just won't leave a Z guy alone.

I got the blower unit installed this afternoon and fired it up, let it idle for 10 min. while inspecting all pulleys/belts (blower+drive belt tensions feel good so far). It all looks good and now just need to put the splash guards, bumper cover and undershroud back on tomorrow, then time for the first test drive. *It should run normally (with current UpRev SC tune), but it will be interesting when I put some boost to it for the first time.

Will need to get going on logging data and getting my tuner involved! Feeling like a little kid hehe! (in pic the air filter looks weird; just sun setting glare, I cleaned that sucka'. When reving a few times I noticed a bit more of the SC "whine" sound with this new trim; music to my ears.

 

And Blue says, "To heck with the visitors.... y'all wanna be entertained, come on out to the garage!" Laff...

Havent read through the majority of this, but might I ask why you aren't running a Gates Fleetrunner HD belt? (i.e. the green belts)

Only asking because I do see you were asking about possible pulley issues.

 

I just got back from checking things out on the open road, to see how it runs with the current sc tune and it runs well, but will get an updated tune on it soon. Things I noticed:

With the SCI trim I had never seen over 8 lbs. of boost on my gauge, but today during the two WOT pulls I got to 11+ lbs. no problem.

My afr target at wot for my current tune is about 11.5 and today at wot it looked like that didn't change according to my gauge. I think that a new tune will smooth things out also.

Not going to push the car now until a new tune is on it; just wanted to test it out a bit. * Any ideas as to possible rwhp/tq #'s I may have gained with 3+ lbs. of boost?

 

My tuner sent the first step of the new tune today. I flashed it on the ecu and took the car for a short ride; it feels smooth and on the only "stomp" (mega-traffic in town this weekend) that I did (just about 8 lbs. boost) the car felt very strong and I'm impressed. Need to get it out on the open road and try some wot pulls.

Next he will let me know what to do for another "log" for him to look at and he'll take it from there; possible tweak/s. *basically the main change that he made from my V3 sci trim tune for now was fueling adjustments; don't know the details. Once it's all done I'll post more info. of the final overall new tune. Anyway, it makes a nice Easter present.
