Default Differential Swap

I have a question for you guys. I own a 07 z 6 spd base model, traction sucks on it. I have a friend that owns an 07 g35 sedan auto, with LSD. He's planning on selling he's car soon, would I be able to swap the differentials. Is there anything else either car will have? I notice with he's car both tires peel out for a period of time when first accelerating where as with mine I have to let go of the gas or my rpms just go up and the wheel spins out.

Thank you

Switching the auto VLSD for your manual open diff will result in a gear ratio change. So, probably not the best idea. Too bad, though, as it's just a few hours work in the driveway. VLSD pumpkins are cheap, but look for one from a 6MT car, and with low miles on it.

Dcains, thanks man I'll make sure to get it from a manual trans. Does it make a difference year wise? I know coming from an 03 will have more and miles and abuse, but besides that would it be plug and play?

I initially did the VLSD upgrade on my '08 base, and any VLSD from a 6MT Z or G is a bolt-in swap. Spent only $200 on mine, and a few hours with just hand tools, a floor jack, and a pair of jackstands. The VLSD isn't the best diff out there, but it's a big upgrade from the open diff, and well worth the minimal cost. now I've got a Quaife in the old open diff's pumpkin, and that's the real solution, but $$$.

I installed a 3.3 auto diff in my 07 and it's great for top end and highway crusing but thats it. Def need to switch to a 6 speed diff.
