mine does the same thing.... i think it is just the exhaust slowing down after it has been rushing out... does that make sense...

What you are describing as lean popping is exactly what is going on.. When you let off the gas and let the car decelerate itself there is no fuel being sprayed thus creating an off the chart lean condition.

My stock 07HR does it, albeit very low since it's stock exhaust.
