Default RPMs for optimal whp/tq?

My car is an '07 HR; revs to 7,500 rpms. I've made plenty of wot pulls up to or close to my redline, in 1st through top of 4th gear while making UpRev logs, having fun driving or messing with some other car on the street or open road, etc.

From what I have read here for a couple of years it looks like most guys seem to hit their max. hp/tq output at about 6,500-6,800 rpms. So my question: Is it necessary for me to redline (when doing a serious wot pull) my car per gear? I'd be glad to know that I'm hitting my max performance (per gear) at a shift point at say 6,800 rpms rather than reving it up over 7,300-7,500 rpms.

I'd appreciate any good feedback on this from you guys that hit the track (or not), whether you drive de/hr and know your optimum rpm shift points for your sweet spots on your performance views.

I also drive an 07 hr, and my peak hp is at 6358 rpm and slowly starts declining after that, after a tune w/ test pipes intakes & exhaust. my max torque is at 4101 rpm. I occasionally keep going up to 7000 rpm on wot since there is only about a 5hp drop and it gets there pretty fast after 6000 rpm anyways. Hope this helps.

Look at this way, would you rather be making 90% of your max power in high RPM's, or shift and be making like 70% of your max power? Also, the later you shift, the higher in the RPM's you'll be afterwards, and making more power at that point as well.

This. Your HP will drop a little bit from wherever the peak RPM is to redline (I can't remember where my peak HP is, I'd have to find my dyno sheet), but whatever HP it drops to will still be higher than the HP at the new RPM when you shift so it's worth it to ride out each gear to redline.

Also keep in mind Blue peak torque is always much earlier in the RPM range than peak HP, but for this discussion HP is more critical to worry about.

Thanks a lot guys, it only makes sense especially when thinking about how the shift rpms look when going into the next gear. I'll just keep driving it like I do now.

Not to forget, even with the same power in both gears, lower gears always have a greater multiplier so revving higher is preferred for that reason, unless you make tons down low, like a v8.

Next try to get some z1 equal length headers and gears, retune and rev out a bit further. Throw on some sticky tires and it should really help wake up the car.
