Strange hiss sound
Hey guys. My '07 350 has begun to make a hissing sound. Only w engine running and sound is coming from the area just aft of the seating area underneath the car. No fluid leaks anywhere. Hissing is not constant nor consistent. Sounds similar to a slow tire leak. All performance seems normal. Started a couple of days ago on a cold start and went away by the time I ended my 10 min drive. This morning, issue remained from the cold start through the end of the 15 minute ride. Not noticible at all when driving. Small exhaust leak perhaps? Don't see anything odd or unusual. Would appreciate any suggestions / thoughts. Thanks!
Hey, Gs 350z. A couple questions.
- What are your mods, if any?
- What is your mileage?
- Automatic or manual?
- Does the hissing change pitch along with engine RPM's?
- Any parts replaced recently?
- Can you possibly post a sound clip?
At first thought, I'd say check the entire course of your exhaust system to make sure all of the nuts and bolts at each connecting point are tight and there is no exhaust blow-by in those areas, particularly where your cats connect to your Y-pipe. Also, keep an eye out for small holes/cracks developing, especially around weld points.(hangers, heat shield welds)

Forgot to include those details!

OEM wheels
55k orig miles
I've owned for 4 months. 53k miles when I got it. Daily driver
No parts changed since I bought it
Mods by previous owner(s):
lowered w Hotchkis(?), upgraded sway bars, oil can
sound does not change w engine rpm, or with trans in neutral and spinning.
i guess I'll locate a shop w a lift and see what we can find out with it running. This afternoon I went for a short drive and heard nothing on start up or at resting idle! I'm sure it'll reappear some day and I'm determined to nip it in the bud.
Thanks again.

No problem.. Ok. None of the mods/specs you've listed would be a possible culprit. So you're good there. However, check your oil catch can and the hoses leading to and from it to make sure there are no vacuum leaks or oil seepage(to rule that area out/and as a basic check, although I doubt that's it, but you never know). But yes, check the course of your exhaust system first to rule that out as a cause. Then go deeper. Good luck.
