Default What kind of performance hit?

If I go from 17" stock wheel and tires to Volk GTC 19X8.5, 19X9.5 with Toyo T1's 245/35/19 front, 275/35/19 rear, what kind of performance hit can I expect?

I am trying to decide between going with 18's or 19's in the same wheel.

I refer to both overall performance as well as ride quality relative to my mostly stock Z. I have only done a few perf mods as found in my sig.

Thanks in advance.

I did some searching but I am still not sure. I thought that as long as the wheels are light and maintain the same or extremely close to the original diameter and circumference the wheel size itself would not matter.

But as searched I came away with a lot of 19" will kill performance type statements.

From using wheel calculators it would seem that the 19" Volks with the tire size I specify in my first post keep everything very near stock. I also found that the GTC's are pretty light for 19" wheels, not far again from stock 18's for example.

I don't plan to track or race but I just hate to hurt performance on a car intended to be a performance car.

So am I on track or is a 19" setup as I propose a no-no for performance?

Zin, I was exactly in your shoes. I went from stock 17's to the GT-C's you mentioned. The overall package is a few lbs heavier than stock per corner, and you will notice a slight decrease in initial acceleration. It wasnt terribly noticable...maybe similar to a 5-8whp decrease in power. After driving the car for a few days, I didnt even notice it at all.

Gt-C's are not even close to a lightweight wheel...by Volk standards. If you want lightweight, focus on the wheel...not so much the size. If you like the visual look of 19's, then get a LE's or even a GT-7 which is 2lbs ligher than the GT-C.

Oh and ride quality and cornering performance was VASTLY improved. The wheel/tire package made less noise than stock.

Good luck man!

Thanks for the input, GG. The overall weight is why I was thinking of GTC's in 18 vs. 19. The 19's look so much better due to the large wheel wells the Z has.
