Default Same-width wheels all around?

What are the advantages and disadvantages? How is handling affected?

Same size wheels/tires front/rear reduces the understeer.

It will reduce understeer and you rear will want to swing out a little easier so you would have to get used to it before you go out and drive like you were used to.

has anyone tried to mount the rear rays track wheels on the front of the Z?

I dont think there would be a problem with it since the R34 uses the same offsets and wheels sizes from the factory on all four corners as the Z33's rear wheels. And I've seen a Z33 with R34 wheels and it looked perfect.

I don't really see the point in running a smaller tire up front unless drag racing was involved.

Well don't forget that the R34 (GTR) is all wheel drive, so the rims would be the same width all around.

:-| sorry no intention of hijacking. I have the same questions...

Cause, really I don't see any disadvantages besides maybe the weight. But thats minimal in difference.

The advantages, are more grip up front which means less understeer. which is perfect if you ask me.

Anyone else have any first hand experience with running same tire sizes all around?

Z Boy

What the heck is this thread all about
It looks like you have the same width wheels all around now, since you have the stock cast 18s. Do you mean same width and height or tire
Just not sure what you're asking here.

The same width and tire size would not be a good idea. It would kill the stagger. But a 245/40/18 front and 245/45/18 rear tire setup would work. It would maintain the stagger, and reduce some of the understeer. The cross section (width of the tire) would stay the same, but the aspect ratio front to rear would be different.

Lou,
i have the stock setup, which is 1" wider in the back, but if i had the same width all around, i could rotate the tires, hopefully prolonging the life of the tires, as i have already had one set of fronts replaced due to feathering, but now the extended alignment warranty has expired, and i'm trying to find my own practical solution to my car's tendency to cause feathering of the front tires; as a g owner, you wouldn't know about that, which is why you don't understand this thread, but Z owners with feathering problems would understand me.

Your stock 18's are 8" all around, it is your tires that are different in width, the track model has 8 and 8.5 rims. If you put same width all around you can rotate, you will have less understeer which if you do not drive on the track you will probably not notice much, but it might mess with the VDC.

From previous testimonials on this board, yes it will trip the VDC. If the ecu doesnt see the different wheels speed from the stagger the VDC will kick in. So if you had all same tires sizes you will have to constantly drive with VDC off.

Which, if you ask me, really isnt that big of a deal since i do that already anyway.

thanx, tw. i drive with the vdc off as well, except in wet weather. as i understand it, the vdc helps with traction in wet weather. if i run same-size tires all around and drive with the vdc ON during wet weather, what will happen?

Your light will probably come and the engine cut out, that is what happened with my TCS when the sensor was bad, so maybe similar symptoms.
