is there a way to disable this thing, at least the alert?

I'm about to put dr's on my stock rims and don't want this stupid shrill sound when I'm at the track

 

Removing the sensor for the rim will stop the sound, but the light in the dash will remain on.

Is there a chance that this will affect the power output? When I went to the track my third run felt like there was absolutly no power, I thought that I forgot to turn off the VDC but it was still off, so I figured that maybe the ecu cuts power as a safety precaution because of the low tire pressure.

Any thoughts?

I got my dr's today and had them remove the sensor upon installation.
No warning light or sound....yeah...maybe because I kept the sensors inb the car since they are wireless maybe they are still transmitting.

 

I spoke too soon...
I took it to the track and during my last burnout the light came back on in addition to the sound, the sensor reading actually showed 0 psi on instead of a -- -- so I guess that caused it, so on my way home the sound came on a few more times but then stopped. I took the sensors out of my car now in hopes that it would just reset but no go so I now have a constant dash warning light.
That is sooo annoying. Especially since I won't know if there's actually anything else wrong in the future.

Is there any way to reset that? I reset the ECU but no luck on that.

 

I switched to a set of winter rims/tires about two months ago and did not transfer my pressure sensors to the new rims. My dash reading always shows -- psi, for all four wheels but the warning light on the dash only comes on after ive been driving for over an hour or so. The warning light resets every time i turn the car off. I really only notice it on long trips and just ignore it. It doesn't affect the way my car drives in any way.

I remember reading in a thread a while back that the last time the sensors are in range of the car when it is on will be what is stored in the memory. For example, if your pressure sensors are mounted on properly inflated wheels, you have no warnings, you turn your car off. Then you remove the wheels and put on rims with no tps you will be ok and only get the light on long trips. If the car senses a low pressure signal from one of the sensors, then the car is shut off. A warning light will not be reset until the ECU recieves a signal from the tps of adequate tire pressure.

Hopefully this hasn't been too confusing

 

that makes sense, because the last I had the sensors in the car one showed 0 psi when the light got triggered.

I have to find a way to reset this and it should be fine.

If my line of reasoning is correct, than the way to fix this would be to remount the tps sensors on your car and turn it on so the computer reads that there is adequate pressure from the sensors. Once the computer "sees" a proper pressure signal from the sensors the warning should be cleared. It is at this point that the car can be shut off and tires swapped successfully.

 

yeah, but that means I got to go back and get the tires removed and reinstall the sensors, drive and then remove and reinstall the tires...

I'm trying to see if I can find some kind of ball that can be inflated to 30 psi, put the sensors in there and go for a ride.

Of course the best solution would be if there's a device that can simply reset this error, like a ecu reset for electrical parts.

If not I might mount all sensors in my spare! What a KLUDGE.

 

well, unfortunately I went hydroplaning in the rain and totalled the Z...

Once I get a new one I'll just change tires at the track but I think the pressure box would have worked

If anyone wants to sell their TPS sensors, PM me with an offer.

 

Take your car and TPS sensors to the Nissan dealer and ask him/her to "reinitialize" your TPMS system. They have a magnetic tool that goes over the neck of the TPS sensor that will activate the static sensor (i.e. - no need to roll it on a wheel) to send a signal to the onboard TPMS black box on the car.

 

Just did a search and turned up this thread. I just got a new set of pressure sensors installed in my aftermarket rims, and I was wondering what exactly is involved with initializing them to work with my car's computer. It appears that you've seen this or are familiar with it, so I figured I'd ask here in addition to my original post I just did on the same subject:

Basically, would it have been better for me to bring the sensors into my dealer before having them installed, or are they okay now that they are installed? In other words, is it going to be a big deal to get these initialized? (i.e. taking the tires off, removing the sensors, initializing them, getting everything reinstalled)

 

from what I was told, it's fine if they're already installed since it's a remote sensor. Just bring the car to the dealer

 

Yeah, I tried my local dealer first. They quoted me 2 hours and $70 to make it work. I just wanted to be sure they weren't trying to rip me off before I went with that quote.

 

that does not sound right, all they need to do is hook it up to their computer...shouldn't be more than 30 minutes
